While the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin saga unfolds in Florida amid protests and death threats, a different story is quietly playing itself out in the opposite corner of the country. But you might not know much about it, because this Northwest self-defense story isnt getting much airplay on network news. Maybe because it doesnt play into their race-baiting, anti-gun narrative.
This story just keeps going and going, because NW burglars continue to practically beg to be shot by breaking into other peoples homes. And NW homeowners keep obliging them by shooting them.
Four days ago we reported on a North Bend, WA homeowner who shot and killed the cocaine and alcohol-fueled madman who broke into his home and kicked down his bedroom door.
That followed a fatal shotgun home-defense shooting in La Center, Washington (also involving a heavily-intoxicated burglar) and a nonfatal rubber buckshot home-defense shooting in Portland, Oregon in January, where the wounded burglar tried to escape on his bicycle.
And another nonfatal home-defense shotgun blast in Seattle in February, where the wounded burglar hopped on a city bus to make his getaway. If youre familiar with Portland or Seattle, you wont think it unusual that wounded home-invasion burglars would try to escape on bicycles or public buses: its all about the carbon footprint after all.
And two days ago another home invader made an abrupt career change (from burglar to corpse) when he attacked a retired Puyallup, WA police officer. KING5.com reports:
PUYALLUP, Wash. A retired Puyallup police officer shot and killed a man who was attempting to break into his home Wednesday afternoon.Pierce County sheriffs deputies said just before 4:30 p.m., a man who lives at a home in the 14300 block of 134th Avenue East was sleeping when people tried to break in. The owner grabbed his gun and fired, hitting one of the intruders. The group then fled.
Their next stop was the emergency room. According to deputies, the injured man was dropped off at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, where he later died.
That person has been identified as Kevin Fernandes, 21, of Spanaway.
Thats pronounced Pew-allup if youre wondering, but theres more.
AND just yesterday there were two more home-defense DGUs, in which several would-be burglars ran for their lives at the sight of a homeowners firearm. One of those homeowners violated a cardinal rule of self-defense and fired his shotgun at the fleeing felon after the threat had ended, but no charges against him have been announced.
Im almost embarrassed to live in a part of the country with so many lunatic, intoxicated or just plain stupid burglars, but at least at this rate most of them will be dead in a few decades if they dont breed too fast. And Im proud to live in a part of the country where homeowners are willing and ready to defend themselves.
Homeowner that are armed are a threat to the Democratic party.
They risk the loose of voters.
I would dispute the idea that the danger is over when the burglars turn and run, for they are likely to return later, or to try invading someone elses home.
Lawyers and some of the courts just don’t understand the basic principle which I learned in my self-defense classes. When do you stop shooting? When the invader drops.
Area around JBLM (Lewis-McChord) is a blight zone. That includes the back side of the base (Spanaway, Sumner).
Meth heads don’t figure on death as a likely consequence of
breaking into a house.
I though that a nice little home on acreage back toward
Orting would be a nice place to live but it seems that
the lowlifes target just those sorts of places.
Depends upon where the home is located. Holder and his held-back witness did their best to supply guns and ammo to Mexico where people could defend themselves from thugs. Here, we're supposed to let the thugs take what they want, beat us up or kill us in the process and not go counter to government people who are working 24/7 to take our guns and civil liberties away from us.
Wait about eight months, this guy will be quietly arrested and prosecuted after community support dies down.
There are seemingly way more of these stories of late. I don’t think that’s a wrong observation.
Slightly off topic but the economy has to be driving many people to this sorry state who never would have thought of doing anything like breaking into a home. Eighty eight million people out of the labor force now. This is a complete disaster. Obama is a complete disaster.
It would seem to me that a good crime control measure would be to set up cameras at the ER's entryway to catch the license plate numbers of the guys who drop off their buddies. Once the news gets around about this, they may not drop them off at all. A Win-Win either way.
And not a one of them would hesitate to shoot an intruder either.
Like I said, I pity the poor bastards.. well almost. I'd cheer if something "unfortunate" should happen to them if they try to invade that house :)
Isn't that were a nutter shot a bunch of cops having their regular donut break?
Nothing wrong with that.. in Texas, under many circustances that is. Such as if the felon is fleeing with your property.
TEXAS PENAL CODE
TITLE 2. GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF CRIMINAL RESPONSIBILITY
Sec. 9.42. DEADLY FORCE TO PROTECT PROPERTY.
A person is justified in using deadly force against another to protect land or tangible, movable property:
(1) if he would be justified in using force against the other under Section 9.41; and
(2) when and to the degree he reasonably believes the deadly force is immediately necessary:
(A) to prevent the other's imminent commission of arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the nighttime, or criminal mischief during the nighttime; or
(B) to prevent the other who is fleeing immediately after committing burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, or theft during the nighttime from escaping with the property; and
(3) he reasonably believes that:
(A) the land or property cannot be protected or recovered by any other means; or
(B) the use of force other than deadly force to protect or recover the land or property would expose the actor or another to a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury.
How would a police officer be treated under the circumstances? Shooting a fleeing felon in the back is SOP. I’d judge the homeowner by the same standard as is applied to officers.
Anybody that gets shot with that moose gun is not going to get dropped off at the ER;)
A lot of it, but Dupont, Steilacoom, and parts of Lacey are very nice.
A lot of it, but Dupont, Steilacoom, and parts of Lacey are very nice.
Eventually the bad guys may get the idea that crime does not always end in them getting the spoils. What a switch from years ago when most people were the victim. Keep bringing these stories forward for all to see. We have a ways to go to turn the tide against crime -
You will notice that the testimony of the officer is always: "I saw him look over his shoulder toward me and pull an object from his waistband that appeared to be a gun, so I fired, fearing for my safety, the round struck the suspect before he had fully turned toward me".
The homeowner in this case has already (stupidly) stated that the perp was running away, not turning or threatening. Of course the homeowner can change his story......
Id judge the homeowner by the same standard as is applied to officers.
As would I, but remember you must be on the jury to do so, if the leftist prosecutor can get 12 leftist useful idiots for a homeowner that has changed his story.....
“One of those homeowners violated a cardinal rule of self-defense and fired his shotgun at the fleeing felon after the threat had ended, but no charges against him have been announced.”
He fired at the truck as they were going down the road. The responding officer stated “He may have hit a window”. the state of Washington has very permissible gun laws, and you can use one to stop a felony (theft of over $250, assault, etc.) - it is not just for self defense.
And with regard to shooting at a violent fleeing suspect (they were trying to break down the guy’s door) from the WA state laws:
“...In considering whether to use deadly force under subsection (1)c) of this section, to arrest or apprehend any person for the commission of any crime, the peace officer must have probable cause to believe that the suspect, if not apprehended, poses a threat of serious physical harm to the officer or a threat of serious physical harm to others...”
Notes:
Legislative recognition: “The legislature recognizes that RCW 9A.16.040 establishes a dual standard with respect to the use of deadly force by peace officers and private citizens, and further recognizes that private citizens’ permissible use of deadly force under the authority of RCW 9.01.200, 9A.16.020, or 9A.16.050 is not restricted and remains broader than the limitations imposed on peace officers.”
See my post 18. WA state laws five private citizens MORE leeway in when it is okay to use deadlyf force. To prevent a person that is dangerous and violent (they were trying to break down the guy’s door while he was home) - deadly force is okay.
In another shooting (not mentioned in the post), a gal shot and killed two(?) guys trying to break in her house. The officer at that scene said “It is open season on criminals”.
Yes, all would-be burglars must learn quickly that attempting to break into homes in this area is very dangerous to their continued existence. They should move far away, Northeast I'm thinking.
