Mom wanted to be kept anonymous for fear of being ostracized by friends, said theres a group of parents in Park Slope who are trying to get the trucks banned. But this mom doesnt agree. People just need to say no, I say no to him all the time, and I feel his wrath. But he needs to hear that no.
Pushcarts and trucks selling everything from Italian ice to Nestle Drumsticks begin circling the parks Harmony Playground in the spring. For some parents getting their kids a cone come April is a tradition, but a few members of the Park Slope Parents online group just wish the ice cream trucks would go away. These parents are tired of listening to children cry, scream and throw tantrums when theyre denied a sugary ice cream.
Along with the first truly beautiful day of the year, my son and I had our first ruined day at the playground, A member of the group named Sarah wrote. Two different people came into the actual playground with ice cream/Italian ice push carts. I was able to avoid it for a little while but eventually I left with a crying 4-year-old.
Mom Sarah Schenck shared : Nobody wants to be a crank, but one in three kids are going to be obese or diabetic by high school, she said. When my kids see other kids get ice cream, they just start begging me. I just dont think these are the fights we should be having.
Youre constantly saying, No! or only one candy, or just one piece. Ive listened to the loud, obnoxious cries of a 4-year-old whos denied a Popsicle at the park. Just about any child psychologist will tell you that if you ignore your childs whining and screams, he will eventually

Liberals feel like they are entitled to everything too. Can I ban everything they want?
a good swat on the rear will give the kids something to cry about
It is utterly amazing, if a Conservative doesn’t want their kids to have ice cream, they tell them no. If a Liberal doesn’t want their kids to have ice cream, they want it banned for everybody!
And if a Conservative doesnt want their kids to have marijuana, they ... ?
Occupy Ice Cream Trucks
We usually had a stock of ice-cream and popsicles in our freezer. One child in our neighborhood was running to the truck and got hit by it. She was a vegetable for many yrs . Her family kept trying to rehab her but she finally died. When I was very very little, Ice-cream novelties came on a bicycle cart with a jingle bell. That was much more fun (getting milk was more fun with the horse-drawn trucks, too).
Just keep them in the parks and out of the neighborhood streets.
The food police are real and they will be supported and welcomed by this nutcase of a “mom” who cant discipline her kid so she wants to ban everyone’s fun.
Truly a brainwashed sheep, who thinks that ONE ice cream will cause a kid to become diabetic.. after all that’s what she sees on tv.
Some neighbors of ours referred to it as the "Music Truck." That worked for a while. Then the kids saw someone walk away from the music truck with ice cream and the kids knew the truth.
What is orange and looks great on a Park Slope stroller mom? A: Fire!
People from Brooklyn used to kill Nazis. Now, at least some prefer to emulate them.
“Whats so hard about that?”
Because there is no parenting anymore—just bffs until a “parental” unit doesn’t just hand it over anymore.
When I was a kid either we had ice cream in the fridge or no money to buy anything....living on a dead end road that ding-dong truck used to taunt us with his pied piper melodies.
After that truck came down the street a few times we had enough and all us neighborhood kids would run to the truck but stop 20 ft short and just stare at him....I think we did that 3 times or so - he never came back.:>)
So many of life's little problems could be resolved, if only society had a more relaxed attitude about justifiable homicide!
So true
Ya know, when I was a kid, the ice cream truck came along and I got in my mom’s face for the Ice cream.
Once
Never happened again
She didn’t have to let dad know
She handled it
OUCH
Didn’t try it again
parental responsibilty seems to be beyond these folks
Typical liberals: I cannot control myself against my impulses, so I must control society to remove the temptations.
“These parents are tired of listening to their children cry, scream and throw tantrums when theyre denied a sugary ice cream.”
Funny, we never had that problem with our kids. Then again, we did spank them.
