WASHINGTON, April 5 (Reuters) - President Barack Obama believes women should be allowed to join the all-male Augusta National Golf Club, the White House said on Thursday, adding pressure on the exclusive 80-year-old organization to drop its restrictive policy.
"His personal opinion is that women should be admitted," White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters, saying he had spoken to Obama about the issue, as the prestigious Masters tournament got under way in Augusta, Georgia.
In a rare moment of agreement with Obama, Republican front-runner Mitt Romney, the Democratic president's likely opponent in the Nov. 6 election, said if it were up to him, "of course I'd have women in Augusta."...........

At a campaign stop in Pennsylvania, Romney took care not to give the Democrats any more ammunition.
"I'm not a member of Augusta. I don't know if I would qualify - my golf game is not that good - but certainly if I were a member and if I could run Augusta, which isn't likely to happen, but of course I'd have women in Augusta. Sure," he said.".....

It's a little different this year. Augusta National traditionally offers a membership to the CEO of IBM. The new CEO of IBM happens to be a woman.
That was my first thought, as well.
As a woman, I support a business having a right to allow who they want. I don't feel women always have to include men and men don't always have to include women.

Mitt fell right into their trap. He will be now asked why he belongs to a church that allows only men in the priesthood. Furthermore, his church did not allow black men into the priesthood until the 70s. That will plunge him into having to defend the indefensible, his own religious beliefs.

Argh. Didn’t see that santorum also “encouraged” them to accept women, but at least he continued with respecting their right as a private club. That is the correct answer.
He doesn’t wear the pants in his family. He would be deathly afraid to simply say, it’s a private organization they can decide who can and can’t be a member. His wife is tougher than he is.
