SAN ANTONIO- The man hit by a stray bullet while on the golf course Sunday afternoon says he was faced with a decision on whether to pull out the bullet that was lodged halfway in his chest.
Thirty one year old Justo Flores was recovering at home Monday afternoon 24 hours after he was struck by a stray bullet. He described how he could see the large bullet sticking out of his chest and the decision he was forced to make.
"I was like should I pull it out or shouldn't I pull it out because I was afraid if I pulled it out what would happen so I just left it in there, explained Flores.
While on the course he heard what he never thought would become part of his fate.
All day long I heard gun shots and I was thinking that sounds kind of close.
Those shots were believed to be coming from a nearby gun range. By the time Flores got to the 12th green the gun range was only a mile away from him. The same distance he says police told him the bullet came from.
According to Flores, The bullet traveled about a mile before it hit me, they (police) said".
Before the bullet hit him the noise got very, very close.
Flores said, I heard like whistling going by my ears at the top of my head and everything.
Seconds later while Flores had no idea what was going on his friend quickly alerted him that he had been hit.
He was told, Dude I think you just got hit by a stray bullet. I said there's no way, so I looked down at my shirt and I saw a hole with a little bit of smoke coming out.
Justo Flores was rushed to SAMCC where the bullet was removed. Hes left with a scar and soreness in his chest. And while he's thankful it wasn't much worse he hopes police find out soon who is at fault and how this happened.
Man...
See what happens - Just the threat that Obamacare will be overturned and people are already having to tend their own gunshot wounds! Oh the humanity!
I’m having some trouble with his “smoke coming out of my shirt”part of the story.
General rule of thumb: If something is sticking in you, don’t pull it out!
It could be like removing the cork from an artery...
Uh, no. You should leave that to a medical professional.
I am sure that any forensic evidence of any kind is verboten, but I'd bet dollars to doughnut holes that the bullet was at no such angle to his sternum.
Wow, my BS meter pegged.
He’s an activist, or some con-artist gunning for a settlement.
And what an idiot journalist for reporting this —they NEVER know ANYTHING about guns at all.
Maybe it was really a smoking jacket!
Bravo. Sierra.
Whether what whizzed by the two employees golfing at the 15th hole on Monday was definitely a bullet is one thing but there's no doubt a stray .223-caliber round had to be removed from Flores’ sternum.
Notice the Hispanic name...
This is a rasssicsst bullett!!!
We should OUTLAW the white race...and guns! Yeah, guns too!
Except for the ones we use in Fast and Furious...And Republicans - outlaw them! And especially the Tea Party - they’re too old to party anyway...not like the Occupy Party, who party and party when they’re not advocating violent overthrow of society...
Gosh! Progressive solutions are SOOOOOOOO easy to predict and emulate. If I ever have a lobotomy, I think I’ll turn Progressive too!
Please no responses...just a rant.
He lived. Never heard if he made up with the wifey, though.
“He described how he could see the large bullet sticking out of his chest and the decision he was forced to make.”
What kind of bullet is that? I mean that sentence makes it sound as if the bullet was 2 or 3 inches long. I mean I could understand ‘dig’ out the bullet. But ‘pull’ it out? It’s only half way in and it just stays there? Did he get shot with a dart from a blowgun?
Please tell me this reporter isn’t stupid enough to buy this line of BS because because she thinks a fired bullet includes the damn shell and everthing. I’ve have actually known people that were so dumb they didn’t even realize only little front part comes out the barrel when a gun goes ‘bang’. Please tell me she didn’t just make up this little insight because she thought it would be exciting, not realizing how little she understands firearms.
“there’s no doubt a stray .223-caliber round “
I have doubts. We do not know if this clown set this up in other ways just to get the range shut down.
And of course:
I spent a long time taking care of trauma patients including many, many gunshot wounds. The notion of “removing the bullet” is pretty much a Hollywood notion only. You are NOT going to get “lead poisoning” from a retained bullet and many, many patients are walking around with all sorts of bullets in various parts of their bodies. The cases where removing a bullet is recommended basically are
1. In a blood vessel - this is quite rare.
2. In a joint space - here you CAN get effects from lead.
3. If it’s sticking through the skin - you do this electively at a later date in the outpatient clinic.
Aside from these cases “removing the bullet” comes from the movies and not from real life.

Read on another post that it was a .223.
Thus, the US Coast Guard’s firearm safety rule #4: Know your target and what is beyond it.
An M16 5.56 round goes a long way.
