Recall election ordered for Wis. Gov. Scott Walker

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Embattled first-term Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will face a recall this spring after an election was ordered Friday following the collection of more than 900,000 signatures in the wake of his push against union bargaining rights.

The Government Accountability Board voted 5-0 to order the recall, a move that has been expected for weeks given the large number of signatures gathered between November and January. It took 540,208 signatures to trigger a recall.

Assuming a Democratic primary is necessary, it will be in just 39 days on May 8. The actual recall vote then will be June 5, just 67 days away. Three Democrats already have announced they are running and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, whom Walker defeated in 2010, has said he would announce his intentions before Tuesday. A spokesman for Barrett did not return messages seeking comment Friday.

Walker, who has repeatedly stood by all the collective bargaining changes he championed, said Thursday that he looked forward to making his argument for keeping his job during the recall campaign.

"It gives us a great opportunity to tell our story, to tell that we're turning things around, how we're heading in the right direction, how we're moving Wisconsin forward," Walker said after a news conference in Milwaukee. "But we've got a lot more to do."

A very sad mistake by a million people in Wisconsin!

California, Illinois, Mass and all of the other troubled socialist states; I hope they all go bankrupt. Then they can nullify all the corrupt union contracts, through bankruptcy law.

Stick it the bastards just like they've been sticking it to the public for decades through the graft and corruption schemes between them and the Commiecrats.

There should be no unions allowed for public service workers, local, state or Federal, period. Those rotten bastards work for us and all they have been doing is shaking down the public with graft and corruption between them and the Democrat Communist Gangster Party.

May God bless him and keep him going.

I’d bet $10 that 500,000+ of those “signatures” are bogus, in some way or another. Throw a million signatures against the wall and see what sticks. Does Wisconsin really have that many brain-dead people? Unions? Okay, I’ll probably lose the $10. Pitiful day for Wisconsin.

He could have avoided all this had he just taken part of the billions Wisconsin has in surplus revenues and paid the teachers what they wanted. /extreme sarc

I remember the motto on the license plates up there back in the 80s:

Escape Wisconsin

Yep and "when" we go to change that legally they won't let go without blood and mayhem.

It was said somewhere that the signature of Mickey Mouse turned up on one of the petitions and that it was allowed as a valid signature.

Unknown if it’s true.

Does anyone have a link to contribute directly to him without going through the state GOP?

I don’t know offhand. Wisconsin is such a screwed-up state that I don’t see how such an honorable man was elected in the first place!

This state’s logic is about as full of holes as the swiss cheese they turn out.

Chances are about even for Scott Walker at this point.

But it should never have come to this. The opposition has run a rough-shod, knock-down, take-no-prisoners campaign against Walker and the Wisconsin state Senate Republican majority right from the beginning, as evidenced by the bullying tactics by which they got the one Republican member of the Senate to resign just a few days ago.

Many parts of the Wisconsin state judiciary and and the elections board are in on the campaign, stacking the cards and piling obstacles in the way of transparency in government, all the while being supported by much of the media and the Mafia that runs the politics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

UW-Madison faculty claims to have an “open mind” and be willing to pursue “the truth of the matter”, but nothing could be further from reality. They are at the epicenter of the intellectual movement known as “Progressivism”.

And they seem to take some pride in it.

So what are his chances?

In the end, Walker will squeak it out ...

With his policies, he's got unemployment under 7%, state revenue is up, and he is attracting new business into the state ...

It’s a wonder why good people even run for these positions. God bless him, his family, and the good people of Wisconsin.

There is a bumper sticker that says “Escape TO Wisconsin”.

I have one. Still on my car.

Many people cut it in half & took out the middle word..

_ucked again. This is another sterling example of why you can’t trust liberals. What they really need is their own country, preferably not this one.

If I remember correctly, and I was living in Wisconsin at the time, the slogan was “Escape to Wisconsin,” intended to promote tourism. Some witty folk altered it to read “Escape to sin.”
But, my memory may not be completely reliable in this crucial instance.

Tax collectors should be focused upon big Government Democrats. They want to pay thou the nose let them feel the costs. Every Big Government Democrat should be made a special focus of scrutiny for Tax Collectors.

As for Wisconsin Democrats, they among democrats most clearly deserve the “special” attention of the Tax collector.
