I remember the motto on the license plates up there back in the 80s:

Escape Wisconsin

There is a bumper sticker that says “Escape TO Wisconsin”.

I have one. Still on my car.

Many people cut it in half & took out the middle word..

Actually, it was Escape to Wisconsin.

If I remember correctly, and I was living in Wisconsin at the time, the slogan was “Escape to Wisconsin,” intended to promote tourism. Some witty folk altered it to read “Escape to sin.”
But, my memory may not be completely reliable in this crucial instance.
