N.J. Catholics give church a piece of their minds
Star Ledger ^ | Friday, March 23, 2012 | Petty McGlone

As part of a survey to understand why they have stopped attending Mass, a few hundred Catholics in the Trenton Diocese were asked what issues they would raise with Bishop David O’Connell if they could speak to him for five minutes.

O’Connell would have gotten an earful.

Their reasons ranged from the personal ("the pastor who crowned himself king and looks down on all") to the political ("eliminate the extreme conservative haranguing") to the doctrinal ("don’t spend so much time on issues like homosexuality and birth control").

-snip-

Respondents also said they were troubled by the church’s views of gays, same-sex marriage, women priests and the handling of the sex abuse crisis.

Sounds to me like these liberal responders need to open the Bible once in a while.

I don’t understand people who claim to be Christian. It’s as if they want to pick and choose which commandments to follow.

In the very near future look for the government to say “People have a right to attend churches that don’t follow all ten commmandments.” And it will “rule” that all current and future religions must abide by this law.

They’d be happy in the Episcopal church—sacraments without sacramony.

I know! Let’s rewrite Catholic doctrine so all the liberals will feel “comfortable.”

They want a cafeteria with a few more selections on the morality tray. What could be wrong with that?

So, they want Mass, but without all that annoying morality stuff. They want hippie Jesus who miles and says, “Dude, like, it’s all good.”

Shouldn’t it be “pieces of their minds” plural? I’m always so confused!

“....they have stopped attending Mass.” This means that they have deliberately cut themselves off from the Church and the sacraments. They are former Catholics, ex-Catholics,faux-Catholics not believing Catholics. There are many persons like this in contemporary America. The Democratic party is riddled with them.—the Daleys, the John Kerrys, the Pelosis. Even the Mengele-like Sebelius was “born” Catholic. But they no longer believe in a living God that pays attention to the acts of human beings. This story is typical media trash—leftists using their discarded faith as a Trojan Horse to attack those who still believe.

When Christ lectured the rich man who followed His commandments, and the man said he couldn’t walk away from his wealth, Christ didn’t run after him asking if he could give up half of it; He just sadly turned away.

The freaks will make up whatever they want, and what God said about it is irrelevant. There is nothing “Biblical” about non-Catholic Christians anymore.

I’ve heard that Christ didn’t turn water into wine (it was “grape juice”), to Him not invting women to the table because that was the custom of the times (He was killed for NOT being from “the times”, including saving adulterous females from stoning - He would be sexist - and therefore imperfect - if He felt they were inferior). His message was clear - I am The Way, and The Truth; the only way to His Father was through Him.

They are terrified that people realize that nothing positive has come from the collapse of the Catholic Church in America; more dead babies, less marriages, baptisms, etc.

The American Catholic Church is reaping what it has sown; I’m glad we’re Roman Catholic.
