Philly's 'Million Hoodie March' Draws Thousands

Thousands took to the streets Friday night to show support for the family of Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old Florida teen who was shot to death last month by a neighborhood watch volunteer.

The Million Hoodie March began at 7:17 p.m. (the time that police found Martin’s body in Sanford, Fla. On Feb. 26) with nearly 8,000 participants (according to police crowd estimates) marching from 30th Street Station and down John F. Kennedy Boulevard to Love Park.

Participants wore hooded sweatshirts in support of Martin, who was wearing one at the time of his death. The case, which has caused a national uproar due to reports that Martin - who is black - was stereotyped for wearing the hoodie, has also resulted in an outpouring of support in the form of the “Million Hoodie March,” on social media and more.

"That didn't just happen in Florida it happened across the US, it happened everywhere. We all felt it," Bree Martin told NBC10.

Trayvon's shooter, George Zimmerman, a town watchman, says he shot the teen in self defense and that Trayvon looked suspicious. But police say Trayvon was unarmed, carrying snacks on his way to a basketball game. Zimmerman has not been arrested.

"That is not a good reason to shoot somebody - that's just wrong that he didn't go to jail," Jordan Gyabaah of Jenkintown said.

On Friday, President Barack Obama spoke about the incident, saying "If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon."

No arrests were reported.

While the Zimmerman/Martin ‘white’ on black killing is covered 24/7 on the MSM with an outpouring of rage and charges of a racial hate crime, where is the concern- where is the rage about the home invasion, torture, beating, rape and murder of the elderly white couple by a gang of feral blacks in Oklahoma just last week?

The 90 year old war veteran husband was beaten and his jaw broken. He was shot in the face numerous times with a BB gun and sent to the hospital in critical condition.

The 85 year old partially blind wife was RAPED and then BEATEN TO DEATH.
(She was most likely gang raped numerous times...but we will never know for sure)

Both the husband and wife were weak, having just gotten over the flu.

Guess that’s why things are quiet here. Too many of us racist rednecks armed to the teeth and you don’t even need CCW to carry heat in the car glovebox.

Aparently we’re having a wave of break-ins by white perps up here (at least according to the burglar alarm commercials); none of the perps shave, either.

Oddly enough the segregation up here in the North keeps these stories to a minimum; there is little interaction, and outside of maybe the workplace there doesn’t have to be any at all. Worlds apart...

It will be interesting to see the impact of our police layoffs here; we have gun owners, but can’t carry.

No; it is illegal in NJ to show blacks or Hispanics on television as anything but family-oriented professional people. All of our burglars, bad drivers, etc. in commercials are white men.

These folks need to get real.

If blacks really cared about black teenagers getting killed, they would look at black on black murder in their own neighborhoods. The ‘slaughter’ is black men killing black men. It’s NOT whites killing blacks. It’s not Hispanics killing blacks. They know that - we know that...crime statistics back it up.
