Cedar Rapids among five cities where anti-Limbaugh ads will run [Huckabee is a rat!]
Cedar Rapids Gazette ^ | 23 March 2012 | AP

Posted on 03/23/2012 10:02:31 PM PDT by iowamark

Rush Limbaugh’s opponents are starting a radio campaign against him Thursday, seizing upon the radio star’s attack of a Georgetown law student as a “slut” to make a long-term effort aimed at weakening his business.

The liberal Media Matters for America is using a past campaign against Glenn Beck as a template. In Limbaugh, however, they’re going after bigger game. He’s already fighting back and the group’s stance has provoked concerns that an effort to silence someone for objectionable talk is in itself objectionable.

Media Matters is spending at least $100,000 for two advertisements that will run in eight cities.

The ads use Limbaugh’s own words about student Sandra Fluke, who told congressional Democrats that contraception should be paid for in health plans...

In one of the anti-Limbaugh ads, listeners are urged to call the local station that carries Limbaugh to say “we don’t talk to women like that” in our city.

Ad time was purchased in Boston; Chicago; Detroit; Seattle; Milwaukee; St. Louis; Macon, Ga.; and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The cities were selected to support active local campaigns against Limbaugh or because of perceptions Limbaugh may be vulnerable in that market, said Angelo Carusone of Media Matters...

Determining how much of a financial impact the Fluke comments have already had on Limbaugh is murky business.

Conveniently, many stations will soon have a choice. Former GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is launching his own syndicated radio show in April that will air at the same time as Limbaugh’s, and Huckabee’s backers are touting the show as a more civilized alternative...

Please consider contacting your local radio station to express your support for Rush!

No problem here. If they take off Rush, then I won't listen to any radio other than local news.

Oh I definitely will. Media Matters is truly messing with the wrong person. Rush will go after them big time and so will Mark Levin. They will regret it when this is all done. Fox news is also reporting a lot on them. Like Levin said, they do not want him to do discovery on them. They are a criminal organization. Like the wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz said. “Here scarecrow! Play with this ball of fire!”

So, a tax-exempt non-profit, founded by Harry Reid & Hillary, funded by George Soros -- and favored with a direct report to the White House -- is going to spend $100 K on a campaign against the First Amendment.

These people cannot be ushered out of power soon enough.

So let me get this straight.

They are protesting Limbaugh’s egregious use of the offensive word “slut”...by repeatedly replaying the word “slut”?

I GUARANTEEEEE that EVERY ONE of those cities has atleast one radio station just itching to sign Rush to their station. Here in Bakersfield, the station that carried Rush dropped him for a local show and last year they ended up changing places with a lower powered christian station. The station that has Rush now has been #1 ever since they signed him and I haven’t listened to that other station since.

Rush has 600+ stations why doesn’t media matters go after all of them? Soros has the money.

Hyckabee is a typical rino, wants to get along with the liberals. WHEN they say he wants to kill old people,Women and kids he will say ‘oh, come on now my good friend, lets not be silly”
he’s like mccaion, dole, kemp, bush 1 and romney, GUTLESS COWARDS when it comes to confronting libs. He’ll critize Rush all day, every day, but won’t call bozo out for anything. he’s WORTHLESS!!!!!!

Just imagine all the birth control products that amount of money could buy to feed to starving liberal parasites.

Boston’s station is owned by Clear Channel. I doubt he’ll be taken off. For a yr they were actually known as Rush Radio.

After facing down more than a month of tough reporting, David Brock’s Media Matters for America still has nothing to say for itself. The progressive messaging group has all but clammed up about its internal turmoil under a constant barrage of scrutiny from conservatives and liberals alike.

It’s been a little over a month since The Daily Caller published the beginning of an investigative series examining the inner workings of Media Matters. The reporting, bolstered by first-hand knowledge from sources familiar with day-to-day activities in the group’s Washington, D.C. offices, revealed close coordination with the Obama White House, a slew of favored —and receptive —mainstream journalists, intense erratic behavior by Brock, a Glock pistol illegally carried by Brock’s assistant and consequence-free sex in the office’s media war room.

TheDC also revealed an extensive list of left-wing foundations that bankroll the group’s operations. Those findings showed the organization’s use of Bernie Madoff-exposed assets, the receipt of a donation specifically earmarked for targeting religious media, and a laundry list of big-name progressive foundations, including the Tides Foundation, George Soros’ Open Society Foundations and MoveOn.org, among many others.

In that same time frame, Fox News reported that Brock had to sell his Rehoboth Beach, Del. home to pay his former domestic partner $850,000 in what Brock called “blackmail” to keep him silent about details purportedly devastating to Media Matters.

Additionally, Media Matters’ foreign policy department has risen to become the group’s greatest public liability, with senior fellow MJ Rosenberg under fire across the political spectrum —and in the pages of The New York Times —for being “virulently anti-Israel,” according to liberal Harvard Law School professor Alan Dershowitz.

A report published Monday by TheDC showed that Media Matters’ foreign policy associations include a tangled relationship with Al-Jazeera, a Qatar government-operated television network with an anti-Israel —and arguably anti-American —editorial posture. (RELATED: Full coverage of Media Matters)

Choice works. In the 9:00 - noon slot on WMAL in Washington DC Chris Plante was replaced with Morning Joe. Some months later after we left in droves Chris was back on the air. The initial change was a good business decision on paper - swap out many local station salaries for a syndication fee - until the ad revenue collapsed.

@Silvie in Waldorf: I know you were one of the non-listeners of Morning Joe. It was one of the very few boycotts (organized or not) that I’ve ever been involved with and clearly the most effective.

I agree with every single thing you say, but I also feel like, precisely because Rush is so strong, and has withstood so much, that people won't be as concerned about this as they should be, and will just figure, as per norm, rush can take care of himself fine. But, they have found a soft spot and are trying to make it a gaping hole, and will keep at it. And I think we need to be vigilant, because I don't think Rush likes to ask for help...

Of course, there is a good chance I am just overreacting...:)

Here in the Detroit area years ago, Rush was dropped from one station due to a format change but before the paperwork could hit the floor he was picked up by WJR......

> I won’t listen to any radio other than local news.

I will only listen to Christian radio stations since the local station seems to have cut off Rush and Howie Carr.

When the Christian stations don’t come in any more, I switch to CDs or silence.

What station is that? Since he was taken of WRKO, I have not been able to find Rush when I’m in the Boston area.

We already have one and it BLAND unless it's a Friday, or they have a guest host, or unless they are conducting an interview. It's called the Bill-have-I-told-you-today-I-was-once-the-secretary-of-education?-Bennett Show.

1270 AM in Detroit would just LOVE to get Rush back after they recently returned to the conservative talk-show format. I hope they do; they’d never pre-empt him like they do on WJR.

I LMAO every time I hear them repeat it on the MSM channels.
They actually enjoy saying the word. Someone should count how many times they say it.

And the pronunciation of Fluke was a setup also IMO,
because they wanted a Conservative to slip and forget the "L".
