Rick Santorum's latest attempt to use a Mitt Romney aide's "Etch-A-Sketch" remark against the Republican front-runner instead gave his rival a chance to fire back on Thursday, after Santorum seemed to say he'd rather see President Obama reelected than send Romney to the White House.
Speaking at an event in Texas, Santorum again made the case that Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom's comments Wednesday on CNN about a "reset" of the campaign if Romney clinched the nomination showed the former Massachusetts governor's efforts to appeal to conservatives were insincere.
"You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there," Santorum told a crowd in San Antonio, according to NBC News. "If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch-A-Sketch candidate of the future."

Rick has become so sure of himself, he thinks nothing can stop him or touch him.
Oh, really???
He needs to take that back or he is more finished then he already is. Obama needs to GO!!!
The rabid newtered supporters will pull out all the stops to push their dead beat candidate even though he’ll NEVER amount to anything beyond a faded memory...even if it means adopting the idiot leftard’s talking points to take down the only conservative alternative to Obamney.
If you're willing to 'hold your nose for McLame to gain Palin, or cover your ears to support an absolute RINO like Romney, or cover your eyes (to everything his past holds) in support of Newt, there's nothing to stop you from supporting an absolute communist like Obummer. You've already surrendered any CONSERVATIVE values you claim to hold.
Rather your brain fails.
Santorum did not say he preferred Obama. Read his damn words before posting garbage.
Unfortunately I have to agree with you. Sad, I hoped he would win, but no longer. This was stupid. What is wrong with him?
I would vote for Newt if he was the nominee, even though he'd be lucky to get 25% of the vote here.
And I do not think that Obama is better than Romney. Romney sucks to be sure, but Obama is worse than worse.
I see what Santorum is saying, but that title is distorted. He never mentioned Obama. But some of you think Romney is better than Obama. I don’t and won’t vote for either one of them. If Rick is not nomination and Newt does not get the nomination, I am not voting in the General for President. I will vote for the Senate and House but I will write in someone. Santorum is 100 percent correct on this.
Maybe they can start with one of many other memorable Santorum quotes:
I dont want a nominee that I have to worry about what hes going to say next, Santorum, on Newt Gingrich, said during the CNN republican debate, January 29, 2012.
I thought we might have been invaded by the mormon tabernacle choir. I’m not the only one apparently.
Of course not. Don't be stupid. I seriously think that will change if we elect conservative Congressmen to replace these wafflers.
It’s a big difference, but it’s irrelevant.
If this statement will help Obama against Romney, there should be no problem if you think Romney is worse. In fact, you should be glad he said it.
I voted for Newt in NH primary, but I still think you’re full of crap.
That's true. And Bill was more honest. You always knew it was all about Bill.
I have always said that Santorm reminds me of Jimmy Carter - but not really. Carter was an idiot and was elected only for his piety and down-home Mr. Smith Goes to Washington approach after the Nixon years. But the difference is that I felt that Carter, initially at least, really believed it.
I don't think Santorum does, and he is just using a very vulnerable group of people who are always looking for the man on the white horse.
Rick should not have gotten on the etch a sketch band-wagon...or if he had to, said it early in the week and then left it alone.
Now by trying to use it to the max, and thus use it up, he has done worse. He has made a gaffe so bad himself that it allows Romney to get out from under what his advisor said and point the attention now to Santorum.
It gave Newt ammo against Santorum as well and it has a lot of people scracthing their heads now focusing thier worry on Santorum.
Foolish mistake on the eve of Lousiana. You can bet this will be the talk of tomorrow.
That HAS to be said.
Wrong, Santorum. I’ll vote for ANYONE but Obamao.
Romney is excrement.
That's one of the silliest contentions I've heard. Santorum is a SoCon O N L Y. And that does not make him a Conservative. Otherwise the Bush's would have been Conservatives.
