An AFP report that President Barack Obamas 13-year-old daughter, Malia, is spending spring break in Oaxaca, Mexico appears to have been completely scrubbed from the Internet news sites that first reported it. Pictures have appeared in Mexican magazine Quién.com allegedly showing Malia in visiting Oaxaca.
AFP first reported around mid-day Monday that Malia Obama was vacationing in Mexico with 12 friends under the protection of 25 Secret Service agents and a number of local police officers.
The International Business Times reported that, the group arrived in Oaxaca on Saturday and reportedly visited the architectural site of Mitla.
The Department of Public Safety, a Texas law enforcement agency, issued a warning on Tuesday against students against celebrating their spring breaks in violence-torn Mexico.
The Huffington Post reported that in February, the United States State Department recommended that Americans avoid travel to all or parts of 14 or 31 Mexican states. Its the widest travel advisory issued by the U.S. since Mexico stepped up its drug war in 2006.
Since the story was first reported, it appears to have been scrubbed from a number of news outlets. The Huffington Post, International Business Times, The Australian, The Telegraph and Global Grind have all removed the article, and AFP, which initially reported the story, now links to an unrelated story on Sengalese superstar Youssou Ndour.
“Beware the wages of totalitarianism now investing our nation.”
No question about it, the fox is living in the hen house!
“My understanding from another FReeper, is that this is a yearly school organized trip, not Sring break as we think of them.”
Oh, ok. I guess the Secret Service sends the same 25 guys every year and Mexico pays for it. Is that your msg?

Does anyone remember Chelsea Clinton going on such a trip? Or did her mom accompany her?
I could care less about the spring break.
What I see as scary is that the “free” press can be manipulated this easily - stories erased in a flash. Never saw this in any administration before.
This is getting creepier and creepier. This isn’t the America I know.
This crazy security super paranoia is just plain un-american and unconstitutional.
This endless war on everything seems to be having only one effect. We are losing our freedoms.
And I thought we had these wars to keep our freedoms... was I a fool to believe that? I am feeling sick to my stomach.
Ditto!
Maybe the internet kill switch wasn’t really killed.

Excerpt:
A similar bill was introduced last year, but stalled thanks to concerns about the legislation giving the president an “Internet kill switch” option.
Both senators denied that was the case and later introduced a bill that specifically banned that practice, but getting sweeping cyber-security legislation through Congress has been a difficult endeavor.

Ping to see if this thread makes it until the morning...
The admins here happen to be stellar people. Good on them!
Haven’t you read, this is a pro-life website, why put the life of the President’s daughter and all those who are with her, in danger?
I agree. Looks like Facebook is pulling personal postings of this story too. What has happened to America? We are no longer free.
Watching “freepers” fall right into lockstep behind this horrific totalitarian state, under the guise of the “leave the kids alone” mantra, is downright disgusting and frightening.
Don’t let “rah rah rah” screen names and Bush pictures on their profile fool you; all is not what it seems.
If the White House doesn’t want this story out, why are they putting out photos of the kid on the trip?
Watching grown adults attack the looks and demeanor of a 13-year-old is vile. Get over yourself, you can comment about the cost of this trip to taxpayers without drawing a child into it on a personal level.
“Oh, ok. I guess the Secret Service sends the same 25 guys every year and Mexico pays for it. Is that your msg?”
No. My “msg” was to reply to comments regarding ‘Spring Break’... that this isn’t a ‘Spring Break’ like older kids take. This is an annual school-related trip.
As for the 25 secret service agents...I’ve already stated previously that it was ricidulous to allow her to go somewhere so dangerous that it required so many agents.
“If the White House doesnt want this story out, why are they putting out photos of the kid on the trip?”
A better question would be “if the so called parents complain about the privacy of their children being abused, why do the so called parents insist on dragging them out in the public for politically motivated issues like abortion?”
I mentioned to some co-workers how Obama is using 25 secret service agents to send his daughter to Mexico(a place we as Americans are not supposed to go right now)on their 3rd vacation of this year and barely got a yawn. Obamabots......its like their brains have been completely shut down. Powered off...blue screen of death....
Not long ago, copy and video of Moochelle getting booed badly at a Nascar race was scrubbed from FR too.
This article has nothing to do with Obama’s kid, but it does have everything to do with blowing money we don’t have on a president’s family in a nation that’s on alert by the State Department as dangerous!
Pulling articles and pictures by a website like Free Republic is just wrong-headed!
It has been FR moderation policy, dating back to the Clinton Admin, that posts snarking at the children of politicians will be pulled, and if a given thread is overrun with people doing such, the thread will get pulled. That is what has happened with threads about this story. Repeatedly, sadly to say.
And it was your own snarky post about the kid's names that got the most recent thread pulled. A grown man snarking on the names of children. Cripes, are you in fifth grade? Get over yourself and stick to the adult side of the story, such as the cost to taxpayers for this, and the thread will stay up.
OK. Point taken. I will post the straight article w/o comments.
Gee, I wonder why? LOL
