The State Department plans to join a new effort to find the plane of pioneering aviator Amelia Earhart, 75 years after she mysteriously disappeared over the South Pacific.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood will take part in a ceremony Tuesday morning announcing the joint public-private search at the State Department, The Wall Street Journal reports. The event, "Amelia Earhart, a Pacific Legacy," which is pitched as a celebration of the U.S.'s pan-Pacific ties, will be streamed live at 9 a.m. on the State Department's website, a spokesman for the agency said.
Earhart's twin-engine Lockheed vanished July 2, 1937, as she and her navigator, Fred Noonan, left New Guinea (now Papua New Guinea) on their way to Howland Island in the South Pacific as part of an attempt to circle the Earth.
The half-million-dollar search, financed with private funds, will begin in July.

WTF? Over.
One more such gratuitous insult directed at my hero Fred Noonan, and my seconds shall call upon you, you heartless cur.
Fred never touched a drop, not a damn drop, until he met this dizzy debutante who barely knew her ass from an aileron. Besides, how the hell are were we ever supposed to find her if Fred didn't throw bottles from the plane?
BTW, Amelia Earhart luggage is absolutely primo.
Yours truly

“I was thinking the same thing. Not really anything of any importance to be learned from it.”
But the distraction value is great.
Many years ago, Robert Stack said (on Unsolved Mysteries) that the Japanese had forced the plane down and then executed Earhart and her navigator. There were local witnesses they interviewed who claims to have seen the executions.
During the island hopping campaign of WWII, marines found the plane intact in a hangar along with personal effect and passports.
“Plain clothes” folks from the government destroyed all the evidence. Some former marines were interview who found the plane and saw the burning.
Robert Stack’s credentials as a historian are, of course, untouchable.
Big waste of money. Yep that’s what Obummer does best. Waste money.
Somehow I think the best memorial to Amelia Earhart took place in 1997 or so when a modern aviatrix flew a restored Lockheed Electra around the world following the same path, completing her air voyage safely, this time. Modern avionics & navaids helped.
Maybe the time to let A.E. rest in peace is long overdue.
ok, so why are they searching for something already found
in pieces? What are they really doing?
Yep, but I bet she never missed a chance to vote in all these years!!!
Most people reading this thread will not understand Eric in the Ozarks was serious with his comment.
Used prisoners for bayonet practice. Beheaded others. Ate their livers.
Thanks for the Strike Force link.

earhart’s pacific flight was “spnsored” by the feds. they built and airstrip on an island for her anf the USCGC Taney (now in baltimore harbor) was involved in the search after she went missing.
It's almost like a bad comedy by now.
Then the ridiculous feminist groups send out newsletters to secure their left-wing feminist lemmings to vote Obama.
It sounds stupid but the idea that they can make this group of people fight shadows over 9 dollar birth control pills makes it plausible.
Japanese soldiers captured and ate her.
“We ate her river with Chianti and side order of fava beans.”
They just might find that Amelia Earhart was a publicity-seeking, poor excuse for a pilot who recklessly risked her life and Ted Noonan’s for no good reason.
Obama will announce that he personally led the search and found Earhart’s body, but then gave her a burial at sea and won’t release the video because it is too “disturbing”. Then Sean Penn will direct the movie about it.
