White House: Martial Law Executive Order 'Standard and Routine'

White House press secretary Jay Carney dismissed the idea today that a recent executive order issued was 'martial law', and called it 'standard and routine'

Dwight Eisenhower contributed to Executive Order 12919. I’ve read somewhere that it was written in 1950 (before Ike), and I don’t think he considered its possible use in peacetime.

If you look in Part VIII, SEC 803, President Obama is amending EO 12656. And in case you're wondering, yes the leftist conspiracy mongers went nuts when Pres. Regan signed EO 12656 claiming they were all going to re-education camps. (Personally I wish they had.) All Executive Orders from President Franklin D. Roosevelt to current Executive Orders and their full text and respective dispositions can be found at www.nara.gov .

Standard and routine, except for:

Although the executive order is an update to the almost identical EO 12919, which was signed by Bill Clinton in 1994, in Section 201(b) of the new version, the words “under both emergency and non-emergency conditions” have been added.

In other words, the federal government is claiming the power to seize totalitarian control of the whole economy – nationalization über alles.

Even though it might be "standard and routine" under normal circumstances, the fact that it's being done by someone who has not not upheld his oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States makes it neither standard nor routine and gives me great pause!!!

Afaik - the USA has been in a state of emergency since about 1935, declared in the federal register by the executive branch.

The powers the federal government grants itself for these times is what is changing, slightly, under this executive order.

So, sadly, this *is* more routine than not.

Agreed, it’s that “peace time” that’s not so standard and routine. This freedom hating administration is far from standard and routine. I’ve said for two years that his October surprise would be coming this Spring and, low and behold, this order was signed two days before the first day of spring.

With the economy in the dumpster and people out of jobs more and more city governments are also in a financial crisis. Hussein cut his teeth on taking over the auto industry, etc. and this looks like the perfect set up to take over our towns and communities. If he’s in charge of these, then he’s in charge of the local law enforcement agencies... just sayin’... He’s already trashing the Constitution so a little thing like states’ rights won’t stand in his way.
