SEATTLE (AP) -- A former platoon leader for the soldier accused of killing 16 Afghan civilians says the allegations are "100 percent out of character" for the man, whom he described as a "very solid" noncommissioned officer who has saved other soldiers' lives.
Army Capt. Chris Alexander was Robert Bales' platoon leader during a deployment to Iraq.

Interesting we don’t hear who the exact accusers are against SSG Bales, and how far in bed they are with the Taliban like Karzi is.
If so the shrink needs to be charged with murder ! I sure hope he was not being treated
with psychotropic drugs : SSRIs
Well it is about time he is defended. He is one of ours and we need to rally around him! Period...
>> I AM STILL VERY DOUBTING THAT HE EVEN COMITTED THIS ACT!
Innocent until proven guilty; a noble trait of US justice. Now if only we could place justice before the copious apologies that practically convict the soldier without trial.
One might cynically ask if this isn't planned by the same administration that gives us the Executive Order: National Defense Resources Preparedness
YES! I could not possibly agree with you more.
Because he was (and IS) a good soldier. He followed orders. He loved the Army. He loved his MOS and believed in his officers. His men were like his kids, for gosh sakes. One was blown up the day before.
I despise presstitutes and polidiots for such ......
Stay safe !
Bob is 38 years old. Most of the privates and specialists in his squad are in their late teens or early twenties. Bob is more like their Dad than a buddy although he is that, too.
To see what he has seen is something we cannot even fathom.
Again, please pray.
I will.
Bottom line, I just don’t care (assuming it is true) how many he killed. Not anymore. Not considering the fact that his country under the current leadership failed him so thoroughly.
IMO - The man to blame sits in the White House. His asinine policies/ROEs and disdain for America, Americans and her soldiers is the cause. Not this man, who by all accounts was a model soldier and citizen.
To hell with the Koranimals. And as for those who say ‘women and children” - Those children are raised by those women to be what they become. They are just as much the problem the world faces as Bin Ladin, for without their nurturing generation after generation of Muslim fighters AKA terrorists, we would not need to be there.
He has my prayers and my support. I have been absolutely heartsick over this...I wish I could go get him OUT of Leavenworth and take him home to his family.
Apparently there was some major snafus by the doctors to ship him back out here...horrendous mess
I also say if he is found guilty and his sentence is more than say 50 lashes with a wet noodle, we should raise holy hell. More hell than the OWS mob ever dreamed of raising.
Nothing about this story, as told thus far, adds up. How does this one soldier go off base by himself in the middle of the night, on foot, and commit multiple atrocities undetected?
It was reported that the murders took place in two locations - locations not near each other. It was also reported that there was an attempt to pour a chemical on the bodies to burn the evidence. Somehow, we are to believe that he managed, by himself, to accomplish this without drawing attention to himself --- in hostile territory in Afghanistan(?) - the same Afghanistan where the population explodes in unison at the hint of desecration of a koran.
Not only are we to believe this soldier broke from his long standing honorable character, believe he simply snapped, managing to murder 16 in the middle of the night - and yet walk all the way back to base to calmly confess?
Not a single shot fired by any Afghani at either of the remote murder locations and all the way back to base? Really?
There were early reports of multiple "drunk" soldiers being involved.
Something stinks to high heaven with this case.
Why? He did wrong, plain and simple, regardless of the circumstances. He can face the consequences.
I'm not basing this on anything other than pure speculation, but I suspect there some serious concern all the way up to the Pentagon about the very possibility of rogue actions and even an outright insurrection among many of the soldiers.
The near-total silence from the Afghan side on this -- other than the predictable political posturing by Karzai and his minions -- is very telling.
Best response you’ve ever posted (that I’ve seen) on FR.
Logical, sober, VERY well stated and very well written too boot.

No wonder Panetta insisted on disarming our marines in his presence. Makes one wonder if the latest EO was rushed and pushed through on a Fri night - in anticipation something from this was beginning to leak through.
We haven't fought a war with goals for 67 years now, Kuwait notwithstanding. And if soetoro is reelected we never will, nor ever be able to again.
according to Panetta...
4 INCREDIBLY HONORABLE Tours in a War Hell Hole, PTSD, physical injuries, TBI and we execute you....
Just fricken Unbelievable he could even say that “execution is a possibility”. I can’t stand Panetta, obama and Holder..( hey, DOJ, are you monitoring?)
