Senior US officials told the BBC the name of the suspect as he was heading back to the US to face charges. He is being flown to Fort Leavenworth, in Kansas, from Kuwait. His lawyer, John Henry Browne, said on Thursday that the suspect was a 38-year-old man who had been injured twice while serving in Iraq. He also said the accused had witnessed his friend's leg blown off the day before the killings. That incident has not been confirmed by the US Army. The Taliban called off peace talks in the wake of Sunday's deadly rampage - in which men, women and children were shot and killed at close range. The US has stressed it remained committed to Afghan reconciliation. Afghan President Hamid Karzai has also reacted angrily to the killings. He told the US it must pull back its troops from village areas and allow Afghan security forces to take the lead in an effort to reduce civilian deaths. On Friday he said the US was not fully co-operating with a probe into the killings.

Didn’t the Afghan guard claim there were 2 men? Somebody posted a list of details that had a number of discrepancies but the one that stood out was that a couple witnesses claimed there were 2 men involved.
Please tell me why we are in Afghanistan?

The military is making negative allegations against Sgt Bales awfully quick - the alleged drinking, the alleged issues with family. THe lawyer is absolutely disputing the family problems - very strong family, but will not talk to his client until he is in Leavenworth because he doesn’t thrust the govt phone lines (lol - smart man)
As far as the drinking allegations - those came from a couple of buddies having “conversations” with military investigators.......I’ll take those with a grain of salt at this point.
Thankfully, he’s coming back stateside. He will have much better access to his lawyer, his family, and media (if that will be helpful). Kuwati’s probably did him a favor by making a stink that the military get him out of their country (IMO).
Anyone hearing anything else about this incident?

Roger I am with you. I was Boots on the ground in Arab Jabour and the Rashids my second go around and Mahmudiyah my first time. Both times I carried the SAW even though the second time I went as a reclass Intell chogie. Collection outside the wire was the best way for me to aim the proverbial tip of the spear to insure we got the bad guys according to the info I collected. My first tour was as a Medic and I am sure you can appreciate the OPSEC on me not giving any more on here but my name comes from my time of being with the Cav Scouts.

Funny you should mention the NCIS ...they have a long standing and rather notorious reputation for implementing “cover-ups” in order to protect the careers of flag officers who found themselves in “difficult” legal predicaments. I remember my Father, who was a career officer in the Marine Corps (from 1938 to 1965), referring to the NCIS as “the Admiral’s Mafia.”
All things considered, their Commander-in-chief in particular, and their morale just has to be so low they could crawl under a cigarette paper. - I’m a civilian, daughter of a WWII combat veteran, and my morale is very, very low.
