Obama's Money and the Enthusiasm Gap (Rove, but still a very good report)
WSJ.com ^ | Wednesday, March 14, 2012 | Karl Rove

Posted on 03/15/2012 10:29:18 AM PDT by canuck_conservative

....Mr. Obama has already attended 103 fund-raisers, roughly one every three days since he kicked off his campaign last April (twice his predecessor's pace).

The president faces other fund-raising challenges. For one, there are only so many times any candidate can go to New York or Hollywood or San Francisco for a $1 million fund-raiser. Team Obama is running through its easy money venues quickly.

For another, many of Mr. Obama's 2008 donors are reluctant to give again. The Obama campaign itself reported that fewer than 7% of 2008 donors renewed their support in the first quarter of his re-election campaign. That's about one-quarter to one-third of a typical renewal rate: In the first quarter of the Bush re-election campaign, for example, about 20% of the donors renewed their support.....

The Obama campaign's high burn rate doesn't come from large television buys, phone banks or mail programs that could be immediately stopped. It appears to result instead from huge fixed costs for a big staff and higher-than-expected fund-raising outlays. These are much tougher to unwind or delay. Left unaltered, they generally lead to even more frantic efforts to both raise money and stop other spending.

This perhaps explains why the White House told congressional Democrats last week not to expect a single dime for their campaign efforts from the Democratic National Committee this year. All the DNC's funds will be needed for the president's re-election.....

That virtually all Republicans and many independents consider Mr. Obama a failure is obvious. But many Democrats are disappointed with him, too. The president's difficulty in raising campaign cash is evidence of this. He is working a lot harder than he thought he would to raise a lot less than he had hoped.

OK, we all know how welcome Karl Rove is around here, but he still has some electoral smarts in him, so this a relevant article.

Basically, Obama has overstuffed his own re-election team - just like he did with the federal bureaucracy - and is now a victim of HIS OWN self-imposed high operating costs.

Bwaaahahahaha - this is bloody hilarious!!!

Obama couldn't sell heat to the Eskimos, he's such a screw-up! This election isn't over yet!!

I find this remarkable, coming from the perspective of an uncontested incumbent re-election campaign. Obama's herd of trough-feeders are cannibalizing the party-- like the "entourage" of your average suddenly wealthy ghetto sports figure or show biz celebrity.

When your enemies are voluntarily committing suicide, don’t stop them.

Next up, an internal Democratic Party revolt?

More popcorn!!

He’s having to ‘work’ to raise that Billion dollars he bragged of? Well if ‘work’ is defined by lavish dinners, meeting with journOlista’s, and having lavish dinners while ignoring the problems—oh wait, I thought that was called a vacation.

When will there be an audit of how much taxpayer money has been spent on Barry’s trips which are truly campaign appearances???

He is sucking the taxpayers dry while he flies all over the country.

“..there are only so many times any candidate can go to New York or Hollywood or San Francisco for a $1 million fund-raiser”

I have to disagree with that statement. Every time the regime hands out our money is one more time they can run out to collect. QE (whatever #) is being talked about, if that happens look for another round of fundraisers.

Nobody ever talks about this huge disadvntage Obama will have this time...

That is...the GOP candidate will NOT rely solely on public funds as they did last time.

McCain had $75 M vs. Obama's $750 M last time after the conventions because McCain insisted on relying only on public funds. Obama broke his promised and refused to compete on a level playing field.

Sure, McCain ws stupid. But the GOP candidate won't be so stupid this time.

Obama’s SuperPAC will have over $500 million to spend.

The SuperPAC strategy makes this irrelevant, as proven by Romney. Obama will become the master of the Super PAC, and the Super Pac working on Obama’s behalf will have well over $500 million to spend. They will do the direct mailers, robocalls, and ad buys, while the Obama campaign and Democrats will concentrate on GOTV and staff recruitment.

Drudge headline linking to same article:

ROVE: Cash 'burn rate' unsustainable...

Also, Obama will continue to finance his campaign on the back of the taxpayer, to the full extent that he can get away with it.

Obama campaign gets more Air Force aircraft

The U.S. Air Force is pulling nine cargo aircraft from military operations to support President Barrack Obama’s stepped-up visits to campaign events.

The five medium-capacity C-130s and four heavyweight C-17s will be used to ferry security vehicles, armored limousines and communications gear into cities ahead of Obama’s campaign appearances.

In the months before November, the president is expected to fly into multiple cities per week, and speak at multiple sites per day....

His wife, the Vice President and many of his cabinet secretaries are using the Air Force’s fleet of VIP aircraft to visit more states as the election season speeds up.
