The Justice Department has blocked a new law in Texas requiring voters to show a photo ID, saying that it disproportionately harms Hispanic residents.
The action is the second time in three months that the Obama administration has blocked a state voter ID law. In December, the Justice Department struck down South Carolinas new law requiring photo identification at the polls, saying it discriminated against minority voters. [snip]
Whatever happened to “States’ Rights?”
“He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public Good.”
that the measure may disproportionately harm Hispanics
“May”?????
No evidence, no proof...just “may”.
Proper response is “scru u”.
They need id’s to get welfare and the other freebies from the taxpayers...somehow they have id for that....
Whatever happened to States Rights?
About the only one left today is your ‘right’ to send to DC your tax dollars.......
Interestingly enough the piece of legislation known as the Voting Rights Act was signed into law by Texan Lyndon Baines Johnson in 1965.
Of course it’s biased ... against people who aren’t entitled to vote.
While I’m not a Perry fan, he would get lotsa points for treating Obama/Holder like a 2YO with a tantrum, tell them “NO!”, with ho explaination, enforce it FULLY and let the cards fall where they may with the voters.
If you are a US citizen and qualified to vote you have a TX driver’s license or some other form of official ID such as SS card etc. If you don’t have that ID you are probably an illegal alien. The DOJ knows this as well.
Illegal alien = Democratic voter
dems think they’re too stupid.
You can kiss them goodbye. Adolf Obozo and his goons Need those Illegal ‘s votes to stay in power. Its all about control.
Whether this action is to protect those illegally in Texas, or is merely one more effort to create a sense of grievance among a particular ethnic group, intended to be exploited by Leftwing politicians, this interference is not right. The States were intended to have control of the suffrage, both State & Federal, within their borders. While there have been restrictions on that right, adopted by Constitutional Amendments, none of those Amendments has denied the right to require a proper form of identification.
William Flax
They can’t allow any state to ID voters this year. Obama will need all the cheating he can get to win.
“disproportionately harm Hispanics”
Menaing the law would prevent Mexican illegal aliens form voting.
I hate it when the feds mess with Texas.
Texas reps should write a bill to impeach Holder and then go on every TV station and radio program and scream that this is violating states rights.
I would make this a campaign issue in a heartbeat. The usurper in chief has got to go.
But that isn't a 'photo ID' which was being put into place.
2. What kind of identification will be required to qualify to vote in person under the new program?
A: A voter will be required to show one of the following forms of photo identification at the polling location before the voter will be permitted to cast a vote.
With the exception of the U.S. citizenship certificate, the identification must be current or have expired no more than 60 days before being presented for voter qualification at the polling place.
The U.S. Justice Department is using its power under the Voting Rights Act to halt the Texas law, saying in a letter to the state today that the measure may disproportionately harm Hispanics.
Okay. WHY?
Is the Federal Government claiming that Hispanics are incompetent? That they lack the knowledge or abilities needed to acquire the proper ID?
Are they claiming that Hispanics don’t drive, don’t work, don’t buy houses, don’t rent apartments and hundreds of other daily activities that require photo ID?
It won’t harm Hispanics, only illegals.
