Gingrich: I'm more Southern than Romney
CBS News ^ | March 10, 2012 | Sarah Huisenga

Posted on 03/10/2012 10:47:35 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

...."I have had grits before," he told a crowd at a Mobile cafe on Saturday morning, making a not-so-subtle knock on former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney's joking admission to an audience that he was starting to like the favorite Southern food.

....The former House Speaker contended that was evidence of a larger problem facing his rival: "I figure if you don't understand grits, there's a pretty high likelihood that you don't understand the rest of the South, either."

...."We have momentum, but we haven't won," he told a crowd at his second cafe stop of the day - Mama Lou's in Robertsdale. "We still have to go out and finish the sale, we have to make sure, particularly in a county like this that has such a huge Republican vote, we need to make sure that everybody understands the opportunity."

I just want to know that the Republican candidate is more presidential than the current goon in the white house.

Just sayin’....... :)

Yet when is the last time a conservative republican won Mass? NY? Vermont? Maine? how do you stop it when there still seems to be a war of the regions? the blue states vs the red states...

I’m so sorry you were lost the other day. I’m happy you have someone to drive you to Brandon. If you didn’t, I would figure out a way to help you find the place. Safe driving tomorrow!

Santorum endorsed Spector..without Spector's vote we would not have Obamacare. Santorum endorsed Romney KNOWING that Romney brought socialized medicine to Mass; Santorum voted for Sotomayor..even rino McCain voted NAY ON Sonia. Santorum voted for a full blown leftwing judge to serve on the 9th circuit court ...what does that tell you about his convictions? he sold out.

Don't forget he voted for Title 10 too BTW...how do you like the photos of RS and Arlen?

Newt graduated from high school in Georgia in 1961 and remained in the south for almost 40 yrs. His childhood was spent traveling a bit due to his father’s military service.
Newt even lived in Germany for awhile but the majority of his life he has lived in Georgia.

Thanks very much, sweet you. It’s still a go for my driver tonight, so I’ll cry and pitch a hissy fit if he tries to change his mid tomorrow. I’m pretty sure he’s looking forward to going with me. We always have fun on our adventures! LOL.

The “baggage” is personal. Not putting any personal info on the list is rather dishonest. Not that I dislike Newt, just sayin’.

Sooo...Newt’s either Irish/Scot, or both. Newton McPherson sounds like it matches better than Newton Gingrich. Wondered what his parents were thinking. LOL

That’s interesting. Thanks for the bio.

the majority of his life he has lived in Georgia.

Doesn't his obviously Southern accent give it away?/sarc

You missed my salient point: Newt continues to engage in divisive gratuitous politics.

Nobody cares if he's more Southern than anybody else.

We only care that he meets the William F Buckley criteria.

Some of us don’t care for the Buckley criteria which would favor Mitt. Buckley believed in endorsing NOT the most conservative candidate aka Newt but the most conservative candidate that would win (beat Obama) and many in the gop E believe that is Romney.
Like it or not there is a clear division in the USA which impacts voters. Vermont...the most liberal republican; Mass...the most liberal republican etc.
Romney made the South an issue with his absurd comments. Why should any politician claim his heritage? nothing wrong with Newts comments unless you are a Romney fan

“We’re all very different people; we’re not Watusi, we’re not Spartans. We’re Americans, with a capital A, huh? You know what that means? Do ya? That means that our forefathers were kicked out of every out every decent country in the world. We are the wretched refuse. We’re underdogs, we’re mutts! Here’s proof: his nose is cold. But there’s no animal that’s more faithful, that’s more loyal, more lovable than the mutt.” - Stripes

Fine, Then don't. I want a candidate who can beat Obama so he can't stack the SCOTUS for the next 30 years.

I'll follow Buckley the father of modern conservatism, you can follow your own path.

Buckly would have voted for Romney. Romney introduced socialized medicine to the US...the gop has been through this how many times? McCain was the last but even Bush 43 was too moderate.

Looks like Mitt may very well be our nominee and we may have to close our minds and eyes and vote for him...guess the gop E will teach us a lesson.

Bryant is not as bad a Haley... this is his first mistake so far. Plenty of republican leaders that I have talked with, have told Phil that he made a mistake. trent lott manufactured that situation and he will be the rotten tomato of politics in Mississippi for as long as he lives. There was never a more corrupt or typical politicriminal than trent. THAT is where your anger should be pointed.

Newt will win in Mississippi... I believe that... so does romney. His latest ad this morning is stating that beating obama is too important to risk on Newt. I SAY THAT AMERICA IS TOO IMPORTANT TO RISK ON romney! He is just a Northern version of trent lott... both have more hair than brains.

BTW, I was on the phone with a friend that was driving yesterday... he passed a man putting out romney signs on Highway 49. He asked my friend for his support... my friend yelled for romney to take his arse back up North... he was not anyone that needed to be close to the presidency... the guy tried again... my friend ran over his sign... think romney got the message?

I had to look it up. Yes, it’s a KY (and Southern IL) thing (and appears to be most prevalent in Owensboro): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burgoo

Chester Lott again? Bryant shouldn’t be paying him any attention! Looks to me like Bryant wants to stay inside the good ole GOP-E with his endorsement.

I love your friend! I have been bombarded with Romney robo calls. Twenty two thus far. Four yesterday on Sunday! I hope folks turn against him just on the nuisance factor.
