The Enemy Of Trust

March 8, 2012

Military commanders always want to have enough troops to accomplish their mission. Most would prefer having too many not too few, but not everyone agrees on just how many troops will be enough.

When Gideon recruited an army of 32,000 men to stand against those who oppressed the Israelites, the Lord told him, “The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me’” (Judg. 7:2).

So the Lord began to reduce Gideon’s army. When the fearful were allowed to leave, 22,000 men went home (v.3). A second reduction cut the force from the remaining 10,000 to 300 troops, of whom the Lord said, “By the three hundred . . . I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand” (v.7). And so it happened (vv.19-23).

In our life of faith, our resources can become the enemy of trust. God wants us to depend on Him, not our own strength, whether physical, financial, or intellectual.

When the Lord reduces our resources from “32,000 to 300,” it is not punishment. It is preparation for Him to be glorified through our lives as we acknowledge and trust His power.

Trust in God and you will know
He can vanquish any foe;
Simply trust Him day by day—
He will be your strength and stay. —D. De Haan
When God gives us an impossible task— it becomes possible.

The Lord said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many.” —Judges 7:2

Hi, Kathy.

((HUGS))

Just finished my research for Friday night's music mayhem. This week it's the songbook of Gerry Goffin and Carole King. Should be fun, and there are a lot of great tunes.

SOUP FOR THE TROOPS

WELCOME TO

(where our troops, allies and their families can refresh themselves)

Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning to our

Military, our Allies, and their families.

Thank you, Ma, for preparing the Canteen for today's activities

~ Today...Partly sunny in the morning...
Then becoming mostly cloudy.
Highs in the lower 70s.
Southwest winds 15 to 20 mph.
Gusts up to 40 mph in the afternoon.

~ Tonight..Showers...Mainly after midnight.
Lows in the upper 40s.
Southwest winds 15 to 20 mph...
Becoming west 10 to 15 mph after midnight.
Chance of rain 90 percent.

Making Z Zoup
A dash of this...a little surprise, yes? no?...

Wellington College, which was founded in 1853
and specialized in educating the sons of soldiers,
was quick to adopt its own set of colors
for its sports teams.
Its rugby team played in orange-and-black striped jerseys,
while its cricket team sported light-blue caps piped with yellow
— colors taken, curiously but appropriately,
from the ribbon of the Crimean War medal.

Between 20,000 and 60,000 bees live in a single hive.
The queen bee lays nearly 1,500 eggs a day and lives for up to 2 years.
The drone, whose only job it is to mate with the queen bee,
has a lifespan of around 24 days and has no stinger.
Worker bees — all sterile females — usually work themselves to death within 40 days,
collecting pollen and nectar.
Worker bees will fly up to 9 miles (14 km) to find pollen and nectar,
flying at speeds as fast as 15 mph (24 km/h).

The Netherlands are the lowest country in the world.
It is estimated that 40 percent of the land is below sea level.

The Beatles' last concert took place August 29, 1966,
before a crowd of 25,000 people
in the 45,000-seat capacity Candlestick Park (now called 3Com Park).
Although the group recorded together until 1970,
they did not play live in concert after 1966
because of the frenzy and noise of the crowds.
The last song they played — Long Tall Sally.

I've got to make my rounds.
But, you stay right where you are.
Keep the troops entertained and the Canteen clean...
Cause...if you don't...I'll tell Ma!

Come in and sit for a while.

There's always plenty of coffee, tea,
pancakes, conversation, silliness,
and plain old BS

PLEASE REMEMBER THEM ....
