At Harvard, Obama Dived Into Diversity Fight (video)
buzz feed ^ | 3/7/12 | Andrew Kaczynski

In this video, not previously available online but licensed by BuzzFeed from a Boston television station, the future president speaks at a 1991 campus protest organized to demand tenure for minority and female law professors.

It was perhaps Barack Obama's most intense immersion in the charged campus racial politics of the late 1980s and early 1990s: As President of the Harvard Law Review in the spring of his final year there, 1991, he aligned himself with Professor Derrick Bell's dramatic protest for diversity on the faculty of Harvard Law School.

Bell was the first black tenured professor at the school, and a pioneer of "critical race theory," which insisted, controversially, on reading issues of race and power into legal scholarship. His protest that spring was occasioned by Harvard's denial of tenure to a black woman professor, Regina Austin, at a time when only three of the law school's professors were black and only five women. He told Harvard he would take a leave of absence — a kind of academic strike — "until a woman of color is offered and accepted a tenured position on this faculty," and he launched a hunger strike to dramatize his point.

“Heard one college girl saying that she likes the local school here in town but wished it were more diverse.”

Any time someone says that it means 1) they’ve never actually lived anywhere near a diverse population, and/or 2) they’re angry because they have to drive further to score drugs.

They’re putting up a new “teachers’ village” in Newark (pathetic attempts to give new homes to minorities while re-settling an area with a smattering of liberal whites); anyone seeking diversity should move there. They have to sign an affadavit that they understand diversity is 24 hours a day, not just while the sun is in the sky and taxpayers are milling about with police protection.

You know your Lefties well. Good guess IMO. That is more than likely exactly what this is about.

good point which reminds me

used to know a rich rich rich Dem liberal Jewish white woman who lived in Chappaqua, westchester count NY.

I heard her harping on about how diversity was great etc and so I asked why not put a bunch of projects or houses from habitat humanity or HUD homes at the back of you where those tree are.

She nearly had an heart attack and the excuses just rolled off her tongue,
Things like well this is an expensive area, this is a very secluded area, it’;s a very quiet neighborhood, this area is mostly Jewish etc.

You’re right, those who preach diversity do not practice it and certainly have never lived in the more diverse areas.

There was a site called city data I went to years ago and one woman asked about moving to FL but wanted a diverse area to live in.
I told her parts of Orlando, Tampa but if you really want diverse then go to Miami.

Right away LOL she said she doe snot want to speak Spanish and live with poor people.
I asked what was wrong with poor people and she said they all have drug problems and mental problems.

Her diversity was the white neighborhood and go to a Chinese place Friday night, Mexican on Sat and have the rich Indian family, the rich black family and maybe for good measure a rich homo down the street

Priceless!

I know when there was talk years ago of extending the PATH trains west of Newark out to similar neighborhoods, it was shot down very quickly by similar people; diversity was something us “regular joes” have to deal with, and they feel better knowing that their exposing us to it even if they don’t partake...

funny isn’t it that those who preach diversity do not want to live it unless it falls into their class elitist cocktail party group.

Only us regular Joe’s have to live it while they preach it.

Yep, and of course WGBH, a leading public TV station, was happy to oblige by first holding onto this tape—and now releasing it.

Looks like it was a preemptive strike as evidenced by the new thread and announcement that the tape will be shown on Hannity tonight - in its entirety. The sloppy editing must have been a rush job ordered by the White Hut!

Somewhere around here I have a hardback book about the turmoil on the Harvard Law faculty during that period, with liberal professors denying tenure to anyone who was conservative. Within the academic legal world it was a major story for a few years.

I bought the book perhaps fifteen years ago as a conservative; I'm almost certain Obama is briefly mentioned in it.

If I were mobile, two armed, and weren't confined in this whole post-surgery get-up, I'd be in the basement digging through the bookshelves and the bankers' boxes of books.

"Interesting that Obama had then the exact same affected and contrived speaking style that he uses now."

Maybe his speech pattern comes from his DNA, "y'ohn, cuz he dint get the 'bilty from his white mi'll class famlee."

This is it:

Poisoned Ivy: How Egos, Ideology, and Power Politics Ruined Harvard Law School, by Eleanor Kerlow.

It's the story of the 1991-92 year at HLS, written in 1994. I can't lay my hands on it until I'm mobile and not in this contraption, but I bought it during a time I was cataloging and it looks as though I've owned it since 1995 - I read it then and didn't like it. The author was involved on the left-wing side of the fracas. She started off trying to describe the situation dispassionately, but if I remember, she went full-blown partisan as the book progressed. She dissolved as you read her. It was a literary Portrait of Dorian Grey (not the book, the portrait).

I would very much like to see that. Good info.

Looks like I called it. A transparent attempt to take the air out of Breitbart’s scoop. But one thing Breitbart was a master of, and I hope he taught his people well, is having another shoe ready to drop to catch the MSM when they try to drop these things down the memory hole.

Supposedly Breitbart talked to Sheriff Joe Arpaio the day before he died, too, and supposedly the Sheriff has more to release. I’m hoping that Sheriff Arpaio is going to do the same thing with Obama’s background, which would explain why he didn’t bring up the social security number issue, even though that ties in with the selective service registration. I’m hoping he’s going to Breitbart the media on that, too.

But I expect a heroic effort on the part of the media to hide this, which means we all might have to be Andrew Breitbarts about this and get people to look at it.

Yes, you did call it. I am listening to Hannity at the moment. He has the Breitbart staff on and they are talking about the video.

The White House is in full blown panic mode. They have to cover it up. Interesting note, years ago there was a movie called “Space Traders”, produced by the Hudlin Brothers. The story is based on a short story based on the premise that Space Aliens come to the United States and make a deal with the people: Pay off the national debt and clean the environment. In return, the country has to give up all the black people to the Aliens.- The Reverend Wright bigot writer of this story was a mentor of Obama. The video tonight is going to bring this out along with some of some particularly vicious hatred toward this county.

These racists believe that the only way to correct the evil of the United States is to tear it completely down.

Absolutely, and they actually feel like they’ve done a good deed by forcing others to deal with diversity.
