A California woman on a Southwest Airlines flight was reportedly arrested and detained after a verbal confrontation with a flight attendant regarding her nail polish.
Jeanie Daniels told WOFL that she was painting her nails in her seat on a Southwest Airlines flight from California to Texas last month when a flight attendant asked her to stop. Daniels then went to the bathroom to finish and later began arguing with the flight attendant, who waited outside the bathroom.
Daniels was handcuffed and detained for more than 10 hours when the flight landed in Houston.
"She started screaming at me and wouldn't stop, Daniels told the station. "I said I'm sorry, I apologize and I put it away. About ten minutes into the flight I discovered I only had two nails left to paint so I thought well if I went to the bathroom and did it, it wouldn't offend anyone."

Unless there is a rule against using nail polish or it was causing another passenger to experience a medical problem the flight attendant exceeded her authority.
It seems wherever we go there are more and more people displaying Petty Tyrant Syndrome.
The big deal is that nail polish is acetone based and in a closed space acetone fumes will make most people very ill; that is, it is toxic. If she were sitting next to me she would not have opened that bottle in the first place. The witless twit could put a bag filled with the fumes over her own head for all I care but she doesn’t have the right to expose others to it.
Highly explosive fumes in an airliner and in close proximity to oxygen masks is a very big deal!
How does one "discover" they only had two nails left to paint? Does she have so many it becomes hard to keep track of them all?
So whats the big deal about nail polish?
It stinks!!! I don’t think she should have been arrested but she’s an inconsiderate bitch!!!
You’re right-fingernail painting should only be done under safe circumstances, such as when the painter is driving in heavy traffic.
"I said I'm sorry, I apologize and I put it away. About ten minutes into the flight I discovered I only had two nails left to paint so I thought well if I went to the bathroom and did it, it wouldn't offend anyone."I read the above to mean that she was asked to stop, and then went to finish two nails in the bathroom.
Read more carefully. Who was screaming at whom?
In this day and age, with all the concerns over new ways to cause terror, she should have just waited to finish the nail job.
Just pinging around, looks like she got in trouble with a second flight attendant, that the abusive language charges were dropped, that after the second verbal altercation (in which Daniels says she responded stop bitching at me,' sat back, and tried to enjoy the rest of her flight), and the flight attendants called ahead for the police. Police surprised Daniels at the gate.
Airliners are not full of 100% oxygen. A spark is not going to explode nail polish in a airline cabin. Come on, has our bubblewrap society forgotten that 30 years ago people smoked on airplanes, hence the ash trays you still see in older airliners. The lady is rude and inconsiderate but the only danger is that someone will smack her upside the head and tell to have some manners.
Doesn’t matter who started yelling. The passenger cursed at the flight attendent.
Woman reportedly arrested for painting fingernails on Southwest Airlines flight

Similar thread was posted yesterday. And for the life of me - I can’t understand the idiot headline writers.
The woman was NOT arrested over her painting her nails. I repeat.
The woman was NOT arrested over her painting her nails.
All that "ignorant person" needs to do is knock on the pilot's door. The pilot has the authority to divert to East Nowhere in the desert and have you arrested. And pilots will back-up their flight attendants.
Don't believe me? Try it sometime.
That's certainly what she told the press after being arrested, after thinking it over, and after possibly speaking with her attorney.
But the headline writers want you to click on the story.
I tend to read articles “as is,” and not assume.
Flight attendants have a God-complex. They get their kicks arresting customers and/or throwing them off planes (who then get comped by the airline). I’ve seen it happen to others who may(!) have given the attendant a dirty look.
It happened to me once for complaining when I was thrown out of first class (which I’d paid for). After 15 years, I still remember the bitch’s name...
IIRC, failure to comply with the directions of a flight attendant is a felony.
No, she wasn’t arrested for “painting her fingernails”, but for failure to comply with the flight attendant’s directions.
