As advertisers, affiliates and the general public continue to raise cain over Rush Limbaughs inflammatory comments about Sandra Fluke, another party has added his voice to the protest. A rep for singer/songwriter Peter Gabriel posted a message on his Facebook page insisting that the Brit's music no longer be used on Limbaughs radio show. Gabriels Sledgehammer was utilized in the background of Limbaughs now-infamous rant, in which he called the Georgetown student a slut and a prostitute. The Facebook message reads: Peter was appalled to learn that his music was linked to Rush Limbaughs extraordinary attack on Sandra Fluke. It is obvious from anyone that knows Peters work that he would never approve such a use. He has asked his representatives to make sure his music is withdrawn and especially from these unfair aggressive and ignorant comments. As of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, the message had received more than 5,700 Likes on Facebook, as well as 1,200 Shares and 1,000 responses.
Where has Gabriel been? Rush has been using “Steam” and “Sledgehammer” for years and years on both his radio and TV shows (when he was on TV).
Washed up has-been alert.
Do a Youtube search on him, from 2011.
There’s an interview with Letterman.
Then look back several years for him and Sinnead O’Conner.
(yes that leftist dope)
Can’t even recognize the guy. This is a desperate attempt for attention, by a guy who hasn’t a single chance of getting it any other way.
His loss.
QUICK - name three Peter Gabriel hits.
...oh
If The Pretenders want their significant stipend to dry up, let them pull their song!
Sorry, but that’s NOT the way it works. You pay the mechanical license fee to ASCAP, and you can play the tune. . . .
Rush needs to play “Sledgehammer” at every break just to rub it in....
Along with Bruce Springsteen, Gabriel is one of the music industry’s biggest lefty-losers.
The thoroughly transparant political effort to pile on continues. This obviously ain’t about Fluke.
These are the smae people who will tell anyone who will listen that they abhore Joe McCarthy, yet their actions identically match that which they disingenuously claim to protest. Ever see an actor pulicly proclaim himself (or herself) to be a Conservative? Never, unless they are well established, eve then it’s a risk becuase it is well understood that doing so will blacklist that person and ruin their career. Again, these are the same people that publicly profess their utter disdain for “McCarthy-like” tactics.
Wasn’t totally sure if that was the case (thought so) but if so then great! Play away, Rush. (Though perhaps it could backfire if it means song download sales for Peter!)
Starve Peter: want the song, you can prob. get it for
free on YouTube or Grooveshark anyway. (Use simple, free software
to record it onto your hard drive)
I own all his DVD’s and am a huge old Genesis fan. Frankly, they are one of my main musical influences in my bass work.
That said, I’m not interested in his politics. He puts on an interesting show, creates music for arts sake, and that’s enough for me.
I believe being at the front of the world music (spell that A-F-R-I-C-A-N) nonsense a few years ago bankrupted him. Paul Simon was much more business savvy about it.
I still very much enjoy the videos.
Red Rain
Salsbury Hill
SledgeHammer
In Your Eyes
Red Rain
Sledgehammer
Big Time
(But I still detest his politics.)
Never liked Peter Gabriel and never will.
Agree. And also think Rush should just play clips of all the vile things libs have said about women. The libs would still probably blame Rush. This is getting old.
Okay, Peter...we know you’re still alive, and you don’t like Rush. Now back to obscurity.
I don’t think Gabriel actually owns the rights to this song anymore. If he did he would have put a stop to this a long time ago.
Beat me to it.
The more I listen to music and delve into lyrics and musical nuance, the less I like “hits”.
I remember when I worked at Shakeys Pizza back in the very early 70’s. We got a free “break pizza” every day we worked there, and we made it ourself. I was the only guy to make myself a pizza every day I worked. It is because I aquired a taste for anchovies, clams, you name it. The rest of the guys just tired of pizza.
I’m the same way with music. Since I started collecting vinyl, I’ve rediscovered or newly discovered fantastic stuff from the 50’s and 60’s, and even 70’s and 80’s.
Gabrial was one of my “rediscoveries”. I love his duet with Kate Bush.
......Gabriel just grabbing some ink? There is no revolt...there is this latest diversion of Dirty Politics to keep the ‘folks’ from staying focused on Obama’s failures...Obama doesn’t give a horses patootie about women’s probems other than getting their votes...oh yes, he does believe in abortion....doesn’t want his daughters being punished for a mistake....don’tchaknow.
Actually, Gabriel is one of my facebook friends... ;-)
The communists rats are coming out of the woodwork. Time to list them and boycott everything they do.
