Advertisers bail from Rush Limbaugh show (Carbonite)

Three advertisers on Rush Limbaugh’s popular radio show Friday announced that they are pulling their ads, and other companies are expressing concern over customer outrage in the wake of the conservative host’s controversial “slut” comments this week.

“We don’t condone negative comments directed toward any group. In response, we are currently pulling our ads from Rush with Rush Limbaugh,” the company Sleep Train Mattress Centers announced on its Twitter account early Friday.

The company began tweeting at some of its followers starting around midnight, telling multiple Twitter users, “Thank you for your concern. We are currently pulling all of our ads with Rush Limbaugh.”

All of the company’s tweets announcing its decision met grateful responses from the Twitter world.

“I have to buy a frame this weekend. Now I know where to go. Thank you for refusing to support Rush’s hatred,” @djimenez9 tweeted.

“Thank you @theSleepTrain for not supporting misogyny. You’re a good egg,” said @FlightyWendy.

These companies will get none of my business. Let them get their business from the left wing “tweeters”. By the way, what term should be used to describe a woman who is demanding our financial support for her outrageous sex life? Perhaps Carbonite, Sleep Number and Quicken can set up a fund for her or even give her a job.

Here’s Carbonite’s latest statement, via their Facebook page:

A Statement from David Friend, CEO of Carbonite:
“No one with daughters the age of Sandra Fluke, and I have two, could possibly abide the insult and abuse heaped upon this courageous and well-intentioned young lady. Mr. Limbaugh, with his highly personal attacks on Miss Fluke, overstepped any reasonable bounds of decency. Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show. We hope that our action, along with the other advertisers who have already withdrawn their ads, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse.”

. . .

I look forward to the day when a “courageous and well-intentioned” political activist decides Uncle Sam has the right to sniff through all the data Carbonite stores in the name of public safety or human rights.

Rush has done the equivelant of paying off the terrorists. Now the boycott calls will never stop - they’ve suceeded.

Better yet, I hope they hire someone whose sole purpose in being there is to undermine them. May they all be forced into unionization and driven under.

I’m sorry. I meant to type “Quicken Loans” in my previous post and not “Quicken”.

Given the invasive nature of both Carbonite and Quicken, one would be foolish to expose their personal finances and computer data to these politically motivated entities.

Those cancelling their subscriptions to carbonite & quicken - what makes you think your files simply disappear from their storage?

As DH stated, what's to prevent these companies from unilaterally pulling a google-like policy change where you no longer have any control and are prevented from deleting your files from their storage records, and they decide that your information is theirs to use as they see fit?

Any business that relies on gaining access to personal data &/or financial information to remain in business absolutely MUST remain apolitical at all times to retain trust. All these businesses have exposed their political bias and therefore should and will suffer consequences for it.

Much to the consternation of many of my family and friends, and perhaps it's my Feb 29 Pisces, or I really DO trust Jesus .. I don't lock house nor car, have lived for all my years without homeowner's ins., pretty much whistle my way through (and around?) life ... (oh yeah .. and I got took in twice .. once with AMWAY and the other Y2K) ... I don't much give a shit about what's in my computer.

Important papers are hard copied with a copy to my trusted daughter and husbamd/family, and my money is more electronic than real ... I don't think I'd (we'd) be devastated for that long if a fire took the house, and burglers might wipe me out for about 10 or 12 large ... (taking my '99 Subaru, this 'puter, an old e-machine, a fax and the pile of firewood) ... I guess I just don't worry that much and wonder why people do.

Well, via Rush site I purchased Carbonite several months ago. What do I do now? Will not renew when subscription ends is all I can think to do.

It’s time for renewal on Carbonite, I won’t be renewing. Anyone suggest a another backup provider? I’m planning on letting them know why I’m not renewing too.

These companies are no big deal. Most people do not use them. I'm sure come tomorrow morning Rush will already have the spots filled.

Let the liberals support the worthless advertisers and let conservatives note and abandon all advertisers who leave Rush Limbaugh for stating the truth of the liberal slut who wants taxpayers monies for her whoredoms.

It’ll be interesting to listen Monday to see what the commercials are - and if he blasts any of the ones who bailed out.
