Andrew Roraback (R) FAILs 2nd Amendment Q&A (CT 5th District)
Vanity ^ | March 3, 2012 | DTogo

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Attended a CT 5th Distrcit Candidate "meet-n-greet" in Woodbury today sponsored by the Minortown Firearms Enthusiasts. At the end a Q&A was afforded with 4 of the 5 candidates: Lisa Wilson-Foley, Mark Greenberg, Andrew Roraback, Mike Clark, and Justin Bernier (who had to bug out early). They are looking to replace Liberal Democrat Chris Murphy (running for Lieberman's Senate seat - God help us).

My first question was a simple yes/no on HR 822, the National Right to Carry Reciprocity Act, "As a Congressmen would you vote to supprot such an act?" Lisa raised her hand "yes" and had to leave, Mark Greenberg confused the issue with a national data base on conceal carry holders and said "No," retired FBI Agent Mike Clark said "Yes" and had earlier showed the audience his own CT Pistol Permit, and then CT State Senator Andrew Roraback (who "strongly supports the 2nd Amendment") said "No."

Why? Roraback said he didn't want people from other states conceal carrying in CT without knowing the permitting standards they have at home. I replied that this was a Constitutional Right of all Americans, and we don't "permit" women to vote or non-whites to be free in different states. Roraback responded that some people could have psychological problems preventing them from carrying a gun by CT standards, to which both Mike Clark and a man in the audience replied "Those people will carry a gun anyway!"

Roraback then doubled-down and tried to compare state pistol permitting standards to a driver's license, to which I quickly retorted that a driver's license is not a Right in the Consititution (eliciting some strong applause). He soon gave up saying we simply disagree on this issue, and continued to stare at me for the rest of the Q&A.

Conclusion: Andrew Roraback seems to view the 2nd Amendment as a priviledge and/or States Rights issue rather than an inalienable Right of all Americans to keep and bear arms.

Don't accept the boilerplate "I strongly support the 2nd Amendment" placebo we hear too often from politicians.

Hopefully FReeper Palin Smith will have a video of the exchange up on YouTube soon.

The word “but” doesn’t appear anywhere in the 2nd amendment.

"...looks like Joe Lieberman will have a Demwit challenger...",/i>

IIRC, Lieberman announced he's not running again. This is an open seat.

Bump & a BANG!

Pardon me if this is redundant or not your distrct, but if he ever becomes a statewide candidate, then you know this clown likes to infringe on the 2nd Amendment.

Yep, “...shall not be infringed” means shall not be infringed.

Roraback earlier mentioned (bragged) to the gathering that someone from the DNCC was there video taping him, and that this guy tapes him everywhere he goes. Maybe that's what was bugging him, he got taped by the DNCC losing a Constitutional discussion to an average voter.

Well, maybe now that the Dems know he doesn’t care about the Constitution, they will ask him to jump over to their side :)

As far as I know most states with conceal carry enact reciprocity based on the standards of other states. For instance, the new Wisonsin law creates reciprocity for those with Utah permits (any adult U.S. citizen can apply for a Utah permit), but not those with Minnesota permits.

It is not a hard standard to write into law.

There should be no requirement for reciprocity or permitting to begin with, it's a Right in the Constitution, the very second of the original ten.

Good work.

I am a gun owner myself and I support the Second Amendment. Under the Constitution, Americans have the right to bear arms, and it should remain that way.

That was a comment by my former congresscritter Joe Schwarz, a RINO. Schwarz voted against conceal carry. Four years before Schwarz made that comment, he said the Second Amendment did not grant an individual right to keep and bear arms.

Schwarz was fired in 2006 in the primary by Tim Walberg. I like to say that I had something to do with that.

RINO Chris Shays, running for US Senate, admitted to voting FOR the assault weapons ban as a Congressman, and that it was ineffective. Another FAIL.

If it is a National right, and it is, it should be protected by the Federal government....however the Federal government is no longer under the rule of the constitution and it does not matter what courts rule either anymore. Obama can do whatever he wants in the name of domestic terrorism. If the socialists disagree with any right in the constitution, they just do what they want.

That scares the heck out of me. It means the States don’t have to obey the constitution either and judges can ignore the Supreme Court’s decisions on the constitution, too.

Roraback is also a radical environmentalist, a big government, pro-gay marriage, pro-abortion activist who opposes the death penalty and thinks McCain Feingold didn’t go far enough. He’s to the left of Barney Frank — Connecticut Republicans have to be on crack to support him.
