For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.
I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit?In my monologue, I posited that it is not our business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone's bedroom nor do I think it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level.
My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.
Agree.
One would think that, with the passage of time, Rush will recover financially and career-wise. Although he has been the target of the Left for many years, he did recover from the McNabb affair.
On the subject of double standards I brought up in this thread, I should have mentioned that the Left deserves scorn for ignoring or encouraging similar remarks from Letterman, Maher, Ed Schultz, etc. and suddenly becoming indignant at Rush's remarks. But again, when posters on FR say Rush is wrong to apologize, but (rightly) state that left wing swine like Maher are despicable for what they say about Palin, we should remember Deuteronomy 25:
Do not have two differing measures in your houseone large, one small. Do not have two differing weights in your bagone heavy, one light. You must have accurate and honest weights and measures, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
Actually when looking for comparisons to this, only Maher is applicable. Letterman apologized on air. Maher’s regular act is person attacks on Republican public figures and he is never sorry about it, that is his whole show. But Maher was kicked off of ABC for such antics. And HBO is a paid subscription services with NO sponsors that supplies liberal programming.
In this battle between Rush and the Dems the Dems were able to make her out to be a private citizen who is civil minded enough to voice her concerns on women's health issues, and that Rush savagely attacked her with (assumed) personal accusations to 'silence' her. If that is the premise then he cant win.
As I been posting the Democrats have been waging full scale war, but in this rare case Rush (accidently) put himself in the middle of the kill zone and now he knows what it feels like.
Repubs in D C are almost universal cowards.
Rush has been doing his show for 3 hours a day, 5 days a week since 1988. He is bound to cross the line, at least once a year. He is only human. That said, who do you want making 50 million a year? Rush or Bill Maher? Forgetaboutit. Rush has sponsors waiting to get a chance, because he makes them a lot of money.
I was surprised that he caved.
I thought that he had enough insulation ($$$ and ratings) to protect him from major hurt from this type of attack.
The libs on MSNBC were also talking about trying to pressuring the radio stations to cancel their contracts and they made maximum use of the internet social sites to get the word out.
Those who get elected usually did so because they wanted to get elected. So when they see the polls dive and they get yelled at back home and they get lots of angry phone calls from their district voters, they get scared.
Rush learned what that fear is like first hand.
He didn’t cave.....if you listened this morning, he used the apology to TRASH the left......and he did an outstanding job of it too.
1) He castrated the left, by his apology, thereby rendering
any attempt to have his show/sponsors cancelled meaningless.
2) He ridiculed them for their hypocrisy.
“I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices”
But then I never seen Dems effectively cost him sponsors before.
I am talking about day in day out cowardice. Obama is running his OWN government, and pisses on the Constitution almost daily. Not a peep out of those cowards in D.C. They should have been riding him every day for over 2 years. Had they done so, Obama would either be out, or would have about a 30% approval rating. All they do is lay low, and hope they get re-elected, so they can continue to be treated like royalty.Don’t forget about their BIG FAT PENSIONS!
Paul didn't mention the fact that he supported the Obama/Pelosi compromise that took away the Houses power to cut spending until after the election. But if you didn't know that you would think that he was serious. Sure it's broken....they gave away their power to do anything.
Our comments crossed each other. See : #730
I never bought into the Paul Ryan worship. The Repubs in the House & Senate are spineless, gutless wonders. There isn’t anything Boner & McConnell have done, or WILL do to stop this America-hating Marxist. They both have to go.
Yeah....I noticed that : )
Don't forget Cantor, I find his especially annoying.
At the start they promised to not pass anything without a specific constitutional basis and cited, and to not to pass anything with a period of a few days public review, then they went behind close doors with Obama and used the same procedure Dems did to pass bills in the previous congress: whip it out and ram it throught after some knuckle crunching. You wont hear Ryan talk about that.
I make that statement ONLY because conservatives shouldn’t kiss ANY leftist’s azz.
” At the start they promised to not pass anything without a specific constitutional basis and cited, and to not to pass anything with a period of a few days public review, then they went behind close doors with Obama and used the same procedure Dems did to pass bills in the previous congress: whip it out and ram it throught after some knuckle crunching. Correct, and Cantor is no good either!
To me the worse part is passing that compromise that took away their own power and now act like it never happened, like they never won 2010.
The same compromise put into effect automatic spending cuts ‘after’ the election, but it doesnt matter because there is no budget passed for next FY13 and the next budget will over-ride the cuts.
You nailed it on both counts. The Repubs in D.C. put on a (very short) showing of rightious indignation, then go in the back room, and sell us down the river!!
Yep. Me and forests and trees get confused.
I think Rush actually planned that last week to dramatize how hypocritical the left is. Obama calls Rush “reprehensible” for the Fluke incident; but is mute and muzzled about Maher’s comments about Sarah Palin. Rush is NOT running for office, nor does he have any power in the Republican Party. He’s just a private citizen (theoretically), and Obama and crew choose to attack him.
Rush’s comments today were absolutely genius; and his pronunciation of Sandra Fluke’s last name throughout was just inspired. Obama’s like Bill Clinton, who thought he wanted a piece of Rush; but got his fingers scorched every time he tangled with El Rushbo.
I admit I used “hypocrisy” in an informal way.
No, you used it incorrectly.
However, the standard definition makes it very difficult to use correctly, since in many cases one would have to read minds to determine whether the inconsistency was intentionally deceitful.
There are ways to determine that without having to read minds. In any case, there is no excuse for using the term incorrectly.
Fluke should make sex tapes.
You just acknowledged that it was a joke.
It’s not hypocrisy, it’s swinishness.
There you cross a line. You have lost your standing to lecture on civility.
Palin would not approve of such vulgar public jokes about misguided left wing students.
You a good friend of hers, are you?
She knows what it feel like to be the object of cruel remarks that pretend to be “jokes,” so it would be hypocritical for her to claim they were “appropriate.”
The problem with you and the word hypocritical is that you simply dont understand the concept. I know that you think you do, but you dont. Once again, slut-joke about virtuous woman, malicious lie. Slut-joke about slut, appropriate.
your approval of those particular jokes is selectively boorish
Naughty, naughty. You have no standing to comment on others manners.
Somehow you have the ability to recognize that some left-wing comments about Palin are inappropriate, but do not possess that ability when applied to political enemies.
It should be pointed out at this juncture that, while I understand the arguments you are making, you do not understand the arguments I am making. I know that you think you do, but you dont.
Some years back a story circulated that made Hanoi Jane Fonda look very bad. When it emerged that the story was false, all of us here immediately undertook never to repeat it againbecause it was not true.
The left-wing comments about Palin are inappropriate because they are false, not because they are leveled at someone I like. Rushs jokes about Fluke are appropriate because they are grounded in truth, not because they are leveled at someone I dislike.
“Any evidence to back up that claim (that the vast majority of people who make false accusations of hypocrisy based on an erroneous definition of the concept of hypocrisy are leftists.)?”
Decades of observation and experience.
And even if that were true, your “logic” is like saying that since you have a pet, it must be a dog. That would be a guess, not “judgment.”
Buncombe. It is not an exercise in deduction using logic; it is an observation.
And based on what you say with your rickity “arguments,” you sound like you use such charges against conservatives who disagree with you.
No, I dont sound like that at all. I sound like someone who, when he encounters someone who argues like a leftist in favor of leftist positions, hypothesizes that he is dealing with a leftist.
OK, you lied about me. Maybe you can’t help it.
Youve said that a couple of times, but you havent identified the supposed falsehood.
That said, it looks like you dont understand the concept of lying eitheranother trait very commonly found on the left.
A lie consists in uttering or otherwise communicating something known to be false, with the intention of deceiving the recipient. Being mistakennot that I think I amis not lying.
And, with that, I’m done with this.
