So what good is a credit card number without the expiration date and security code, let alone your personal information? Or is all of this stored on the magnetic strip. And if it is all stored on the magnetic strip, then what’s the point of asking for things like your security code, expiration date, name, address, phone, etc?

Not sure if everything is on the magnetic strip, but would assume it is because your name and zip code are there for sure. I'll guess that the security/pin are not on it and are validated live when hitting an ATM. The point of asking is generally for purchases where the card sees no action - on-line, etc. I would imagine they are sophisticated enough to manufacture a fake card that actually works - gas pumps and stores where they don't ask for ID, etc (which is easily overcome). IOW - if they get the info from the strip, they can steal a good bit before being shut down.

To save time, the key info is that this only applies to cards with an RFID chip, which will be indicated by a little radio wave icon having four radiating arcs. Normal credit cards, including some with chips accessed by metal contacts on the face are not vulnerable.
It works on hotel room key cards too. These two hookers got my key card information and broke in at night. One chick kept me occupied in bed while the other emptied my wallet.
It’s happened five more times since then, and will probably happen again tonight.
I found an old cigarette holder that is perfect for all my credit cards, drivers license etc....the gizmo’s used to steal your numbers from your wallet cannot go through metal...find an old cigatette holder from the 40 and 50’s..I got mine at a garage sale years back. Don’t have to open my wallet to get them either...wallet holds only money...the gizmo’s can pick up your numbers through the leather or vinyl wallet.
RFID chips are not about tinfoil.
Even passports have a feature which blocks the RFID once the passport cover is closed.
It’s a real concern.
