When you have a candidate few people really like, whose support is a mile wide and an inch deep, whose raison detre (a 4am fancy word) is fixing an economy that is fixing itself without him, and who only wins his actual, factual home state by three percentage points against a guy no one took seriously only two months ago, there really is little reason for independent voters in the general election to choose him if the economy keeps improving.
Seriously, putting it bluntly, conservatives may not like Barack Obama, but most other people do. And when faced with a guy you like and a guy you dont like who says he can fix an economy that no longer needs fixing, youre going to go with the guy you like.

—...an economy that is fixing itself...—
Baloney.
This explains how the fuzzy numbers give them all those great stats:

Cannot have one without the other.
As Adams wrote, Our Constitution is only for a religious and moral people. It is wholly inadequate to govern any other kind of people.
Because as Franklin noted, As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters. And masters who would rule them with an iron fist.
Fix the spiritual problem first, and the political will follow. If you try to do this backwards as many are attempting to do, it will fail, along with the nation itself.
Without God being first in the lives of this people, men and their government will be made to replace God in all things. We are witness to this fact right now.
Which is why I said, if we will not be governed by God, we will be ruled by the tyranny of men.
—Soaring gas prices, European Union hanging on by a thread, our own out of control debt, virtually no domestic manufacturing - we’ve not seen anything yet.—
Exactly. A lot of change has happened the last couple of years. We will be living in a very different reality by the end of summer. That is the beginning of the end of the election cycle. Let’s see what the playing field looks like then. ;-)

It doesn’t have to be an either/or. It’s a both/and.
Moderate conservatives like Erick Erickson know absolutely nothing about economics. This economy is not 'fixing itself' and will not 'fix itself' any time soon. To suggest otherwise is simply to believe the regime's cooked books.
That said, never Romney. Ever.
“I just know it.” Seriously? I think something is going to happen also. The sun will rise, babies will be born, men will murder, people will fall in love, Spring will come, etc. etc. etc.
My friends and I have graduated from clearance to consignment shops and thrift stores. We have two favorites. The thrift store is heavy on kids clothes at rock bottom prices. I watched one mother of 4 fill 3 large bags for under $30. My husband, myself and a friend all bought top of the line, great quality/condition jackets/coats for around $4-$9 each.
The consignment shop is a gold mine, especially if we wait for the end-of-season sales in Jan-Feb and June-July. I bought 3 top brand, terrific condition mens’ sweaters for $20. Other bargains were comparable.
What is happening is many chains are selling their overage to jobbers, who then peddle them for 50%-70% below wholesale at overstock/closeout shows. This is what you see on eBay and at other thrift venues.
America is full of over-production clothing. It is sold forward due to 1) increasingly rapid seasonal change in the stores, 2) rapid fashion change, where this season’s fad is dead weight after 3 months and the practice of over-buying to fill the racks and create an appearance of abundance, which sells more than the appearance of scarcity. I don’t know why that last is true, but I have seen in in action in retail.
For shoes, the web is full of discount, name brands. Bargain Outfitters/Sportsman’s Guide is one source and for expensive men’s quality shoes and boots, it is hard to beat. It isn’t just Chinese goods, either. My husband just purchased a pair of Rockport service oxfords, Made in America, for around 50% of list price.
Durables are cyclical. When a stove, fridge, washer or dryer wears out beyond repair, you have to replace them. Repairs are expensive (an agitator bolt + service call can be $80) and appliance stores offer GE Capital contracts with 12 month, no interest terms. As long as you do the math and pay it off in the allotted time, it is affordable, even on a reduced cash flow. I wish there were more reconditioned appliances in my area. I used to be able to replace a washer or dryer for $100, but the repair shops have disappeared.
The bargains are still there, but the venues have changed.
Well, I couldn’t list everything you know.
You are mis-applying the principles. I don’t disagree with what your foundational beliefs are at all - but I frankly resent you coming onto a political forum and being very condescending about those of us who are “wasting our time” talking about politics because if we don’t straighten up our spiritual and moral house then nothing matters.
Poppycock.
The fact is, humans can walk and chew gum at the same time. The fact is also that our God inspired Founding documents do not call for a theocracy. They call for liberty. This is a very important arena and the outcome in the political arena will have tremendous ramifications on how much or how little religious freedom our nation has left.
It was no more appropriate for you to say on this thread what you did than for someone to go on a thread about the 2 Chronicles passage and say “quit wasting your time in prayer and get up and go vote!”
Which is analogous to what you did. Both are important.
She’s a widow and didn’t have a wedding the first time; however, she has said that she’d be fine with going to the JoP. I suppose part of it is me wanting to give her something she hasn’t had, but perhaps, given the current situation, I should reconsider.
And what do you mean by your second statement? Cute little characters? I’d be happy to come right out and say what I want to say, but I’d probably get the ZOT. Temperance is a more polite option, I think.
Been saying it for a while, FRiend, and I just have that feeling of foreboding that the Federal government is about to come bursting out of the belly of America and start singing and dancing. If our respective States don’t step up and act as a fence, then we’re all going to be thrown into the clink for supposed conspiratorial activities without a trial.
The more polite option and, might I add, the option that shows the most respect for this forum and its members, is to choose your words more carefully. Spelling the word with special characters is no different that spelling it out correctly. This is not like lesser fora where that language is the norm.
If you want to use that language in your personal life, fine. But I ask that you show more respect for FR. (you might notice that your original comment has been removed by the moderator)
Then the moderator did your job for you. To continue to harp on strong language is pointless.
Sometimes it’s necessary to break out alternative verbiage to express frustration.
Call it a “swear” or an “adult” word. My intent was to impart both.
I’d rather be positive and work towards the good, including continuing to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I think it’s important to stay informed and inform others of how the Left is slowly infiltrating every area within this country and to keep people apprised of the other threat, which is Islam. I see the three major threats to the U.S. as Islam, the Secular Humanist crud, AND the Left, who are often one and the same as the Humanists.
The “feeling” stuff is just your own worries. Spend that energy productively. I’m assuming you do that.
You asked me what I meant and I responded. If you don't want a response, don't ask.
I volunteer at my church and am an active member of my parish. Doesn’t mean that the troubles go away. My prayers to the Lord have gone unanswered thus far, but I do believe that He gives us only as much as we can handle. I’m handling it, just not very deftly.
Understood. My point was more that the post got banned. Sorry I keep banging on it.
/rantOff
I never believed in that “He never gives us more than we can handle.” ha ha... The reason I say that is because I’m a student of the Shoah (or Holocaust) and many people DIE from what is “handed” to them. What I do believe is that HE is faithful to walk with us and comfort us throughout whatever unfolds in our life. Bless you, dear!
There are man's principles and there are God's principles. I simply put God's principles first - same as the majority of the Founders did.
I frankly resent you coming onto a political forum and being very condescending about those of us who are wasting our time talking about politics because if we dont straighten up our spiritual and moral house then nothing matters.
I wasn't being condescending at all. That is simply how you decided to take a biblical solution to the problems we face.
The Founders were wise enough to let those biblical principles guide their political decisions that resulted in the liberties we have allowed to be abolished by the tyranny of men. You may not like that fact, but it is self-evident in much of their writings.
The fact is also that our God inspired Founding documents do not call for a theocracy.
It's becoming routine now, almost knee-jerk to automatically assert the warning of theocracy, the split second God or the bible are mentioned in any congruence with social or political life.
Sad when the Founders themselves considered them inseparable to the health of the society and the nation itself.
They call for liberty.
I share the belief with our forebears liberty itself is a gift from God, and that mankind has no ability to establish or maintain it, apart from God.
You can disagree with that all you like.
I'll stand by it.
It was no more appropriate for you to say on this thread what you did than for someone to go on a thread about the 2 Chronicles passage and say quit wasting your time in prayer and get up and go vote!
I am aware that it is now impolite and improper to bring God or the bible into social or political discussions these days, but in my own opinion; good luck putting the cart before the horse.
I don't think it's going to save the nation or what is left of our liberties.
