With a strong, successful push over the weekend to move conservatives, especially social conservatives, back to him, Rick Santorum has re-taken the lead in the latest Mitchell/Rosetta Stone Poll of Michigan conducted for MIRS (Michigan Information & Research Service) Sunday night. The two front runners are still in a statistical dead heat, although Romney (35%) has lost his lead to Rick Santorum (37%) while Newt Gingrich (9%) and Ron Paul (8%) are locked in a battle for third place. Eleven percent remains undecided.

Well, I can sure see how that helps Rick. I must be very dense, because I still don’t see how that helps Newt.
He may get angry but if he does, he’s learned to control outward signs of it.
If anything, he’s almost too cheery and affable when Ape man and Steffi confront him with lies and half truths.
You are siding with Romney if you believe and proclaim that Santorum will impose religious views on the country. He simply proclaims his right to have those views, along with the right of anyone to have whatever religious views they hold.
He is for less government interference in religion as opposed to Obama.
The line you are touting is exactly the line that brought Santorum’s numbers down, I hope temporarily.
Newt is my man but he’s a very long shot at this point.
Here, I'll give it a shot. Newt fans seem to think that every time Santorum wins a state it benefits Newt. IOW's if Santorum wins enough states to knock Romney out Santorum fans will come to their senses and Newt will be the nominee. Now I don't subscribe to that piece of tortured logic but there you have it anyway.

The media will push Romney and wavering people in the middle will move his way if Romney wins both contests tomorrow.
Romney must be knocked down.
If Romney can look less inevitable, this will cause the not so conservative voters to look for alternatives to Romney as their choice.
They may switch from Romney to Newt Gingrich out of fear of Santorum.
Newt can become the candidate who brings in the conservatives and “moderates” .....
Of course, the GOP insiders may be forced to float another name like Daniels, Jeb Bush or Chris Christie in the face of collapse, but who knows how united they will be in the face of a Romney collapse.
I see a potential opening for Newt if Romney is knocked down tomorrow in Michigan and his supporters start to panic.
I am also fairly certain that, no matter what Santorum voters may say, they won’t return the favor and support Newt in the South. Look at what happened in Florida. Santorum had pulled out, right? But I heard NOTHING from his voters about all getting together and voting for Newt. As far as I’m concerned, Newt really owes Rick nothing.

All this stuff you’re saying about how there are dark secrets about Santorum that we will ‘find out too late’ is ridiculous.
Unlike Mitt, Santorum was in the senate for a long while. His record is public. He has a very good conservative rating. We don’t know what Mitt’s rating would have been, but not too good I wouldn’t think. He is mainly touting his Olympic success. He hardly even mentions his tour as governor because that reminds everyone of Romney care.
That’s the problem with having been in public life. You have a record. This has hurt Newt also, even though his record was mostly good (as was Rick’s) but all the stumbles come out.
There are no deep, dark secrets about Santorum. Someone is fond of posting a long list of Santorum votes they didn’t like. I pray they stop as it is boring. We don’t know the context of any of those votes. We do know that he had a mostly very favorable conservative rating.
You seem to think that if you attack Santorum viciously enough, you will turn his supporters to Newt.
The truth is, it has the opposite effect.
I have to keep reminding myself that you are not Newt and that Newt would never say the stuff you say.
You need to take a deep breath and step away from the keyboard for a while.
The thing I’m afraid of is that the early voting may push Romney over the top. Rick would have to win by a handy margin to overcome that, IMO.
Thanks for your replies! You explain very well the hope of Newt supporters, but I’m afraid we haven’t taken into account enough the reaction of Santorum and his supporters if he wins MI tomorrow. They will probably consider it a confirmation of “God’s will” (as Karen Santorum says) and start crowing to Newt that he needs to withdraw.
To be honest I support Santorum and won’t be switching unless Newt wins the nomination. I will disagree with Newt when I see fit but I won’t refer to him as Mandate Newt in every post mocking him as a great deal of Newt supporters mock Santorum in evry line they write. I’ll even vote for Romney over Obama if Romney somehow manages to dupe republicans en masse but I’ll do it with the taste of pile in my mouth.
Hell I’d even vote for Psycho over Obama though I’d do it with more than a bit of puke in my mouth.

You have captured the problem Psycho has very well, Linda.
He doesn't like that Christians discuss matters of faith at all, and when we do, he considers it being 'sanctimonious.' The anger he has toward the discussion of faith in the public square equals the anger the left has with the same. That's why it's so easy to see him as a leftist.
That's part of the problem many faithless people have with Rick, even though Rick hasn't anything but express his own personal faith, as have many, many other politicians before him......especially before the left began trying to shred the First Amendment rights of Christians.
And thanks for your educating the Psycho on what's actually in the Constitution, and what's NOT........that is, "the separation of Church and State."

Santorum has a shot at Ohio which would hurt Romney, who will have Virginia by defualt along with Vermont and Massachusetts.
Too many politicians stick their fingers in the wind and say whatever the focus groups dictate.
Ironic how Rick Santorum is such an "extremist" on issues like gay marriage. And yet that is the very same position taken by both Hillary and Barack in the 2008 democratic primary.
Yet, it was not a big issue for them.
