CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. John Glenn fever has taken hold of Cape Canaveral once again. Three days before the 50th anniversary of his historic flight, the first American to orbit the Earth addressed employees at Kennedy Space Center.
The NASA auditorium was packed Friday with hundreds of workers, many of whom stood along the walls to see the space legend. The 90-year-old Glenn was joined on stage by Scott Carpenter, 86, the only other survivor of the original Mercury 7 astronauts. Glenn recalled how he and his fellow Mercury astronauts traveled to Cape Canaveral to watch a missile blast off. It was a night launch, and the rocket blew apart over their heads. "That wasn't a very good confidence-builder for our first trip to the cape," Glenn said.
Improvements were made, and Glenn said he gained confidence in his Mercury-Atlas rocket, a converted nuclear missile. Otherwise, he said he would not have climbed aboard.

What are the odds that the President will recognize this anniversary?
He is a traitor.
What’s really sad is that our descendants won’t know that same them, thanks to this president.
He and Mccain can have a Keating Five Reunion celebration while they are at it.
“He and Mccain can have a Keating Five Reunion celebration while they are at it.”
That too. I’m thinking more of the way he covered for Clinton when the Senate was about to expose Chinese influence-buying. The covering up I understand (he is a Democrat, after all), but he did it to get a ride on the Space Shuttle - that was the deal with Clinton.
.....and a very rare authograph it is. I lived a few miles from him when he lived in Lebanon, Oh and he was very reclusive. He was not interested in the spot light.
...it’s also the 25th anniversary of his bank loans he’s never paid back for his presidential run.
I used to think a lot of John Glenn until he proved himself a Clinton Butt Boy.
He once was a hero... no more!

It’s too bad he turned into a liberal. In the late 50s, Glenn was one of my father’s friends. As a kid, I remember being taken to Langley Field and Glenn lifting me up and putting me in the Mercury capsule trainer. That’s back when they were call test pilots and not astronauts. Today, he’s just another liberal politician.
Fox needs to hire some people who can actually write a coherent sentence.
The Atlas rocket was a converted nuclear-delivery system, not a "nuclear" missile. Rocket fuel ain't nuclear.
Glenn, a national hero at the time (and I watched the launch,) turned out to be a flaming liberal a$$hole who played on his space exploits to impose himself and his moronic liberal ideas and beliefs on us to the extent that he could for decades.
Most liberals figure out reality, at least to some extent as they age. This idiot will die thinking he was right.
FUBO GTFO! 331 Days until Noon Jan 20, 2013
History is filled with the sound of silken slippers going downstairs and wooden shoes coming up.
- Voltaire
A man of integrity who sold every ounce of it in exchange for one last rocket ship ride.
I do not admire, nor do I respect, John Glenn. Just another selfish politician who willingly placed himself ahead of his constituents and his nation.
Glenn is a douche and a quisling. He is the type of man that actually believes his own bullish@t.
Send him back into space.
You took the words right out of my mouth (keyboard). Well played, sir!
