Poll: Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum Nearly Even In Georgia February 21, 2012
By Larry Peterson A new poll pegs Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum as nearly even in Georgia as its March 6 Republican primary approaches.
Gingrichs double-digit lead has dried up in less than three weeks, and experts say his White House hopes likely are over if he cant carry his home state.
In a Monday InsiderAdvantage Georgia poll of 711 likely primary voters, Gingrich, a former long-time Georgia congressman and House speaker, had 26 percent.
Former Massachusetts governor Romney had 24 percent and former Pennsylvania senator Santorum 23 percent. Texas Rep. Ron Paul trailed with 12 percent.
The margin of error for the poll was 3.6 percent, so Gingrich, Romney and Santorum were about even.
The results signalled a dip of 9 percentage points for Gingrich and a gain of 8 for Romney compared to a Feb. 9 Landmark-Rosetta Stone survey. Santorum slipped 3 points; Paul rose by 7.
Before the new survey, Georgia was the only state in which Gingrich led among 11 where voters will cast ballots on March 6.
If these numbers are correct, said Kennesaw State University political scientist Kerwin Swint, they signal the collapse of Newt as a viable candidate. Georgians may be starting to dismiss him as a serious contender.
University of Georgia political science professor Charles Bullock said the poll suggests a substantial collapse in Gingrichs support.
A whole lot of air is going out of his balloon, Bullock said. ... Its going to be hard to spin this in any possible way.

Especially this election year. The major swings and erratic poll numbers are completely confusing. But don't you know, now that the “Perfect CONservative” is in the lead, it's over. Stop here!
Less than 10% of the Delegates are allotted, and Santorum has only just begun to get exposed for what he is, and in most polls, Santorum is slipping. There is also another 6 months to go before the Convention, so there is plenty of time and no single candidate has a lock on anything.
Newt was not “Kicked out” of his speaker position.
He resigned voluntarily, after Boehner, Paxon and Armey backed down from trying to vote him out. (Newt’s own words for why he resigned; (Shortly after he was re elected for his 11th term)
Gingrich made the announcement the day after being elected to an 11th term from his district. Commenting on his departure, Gingrich said, “I’m willing to lead, but I’m not willing to preside over people who are cannibals. My only fear would be that if I tried to stay, it would just overshadow whoever my successor is.”[79]
Yawn????????
Santorum will never win the independents.
What I would like is for all the states to vote within a one or two week period, preferably in early March.
The early states have way too much power in selecting a candidate. One unexpected win (accomplished by kinda living in Iowa for a year) is what pushed Santorum into the spotlight.
If a candidate gets momentum in a few early states, he or she has an unfair advantage. Some of the earliest states are not typical. Florida for example.
By the time Texas votes, it won’t matter. And Texas is a huge, influential state.
I didn’t really understand your post but hope this answers your question.
The only hard ass running is Newt. I am convinced we either get Newt to pull us back from becoming Albania or the Republic is over..
You like it when they don’t report the news but predict it and you run with it as truth. You are just the type propaganda was created for!
Obama will eat Romney for lunch BECAUSE Romney is as far left as Obama and has nothing to run against.
Obama will not eat either Gingrich or Santorum for lunch.
If Santorum has proved nothing else he has proved that he is willing to log thousands of hours in a dilapidated pickup truck if that’s the work that needs to be done.
He will not quit.
Neither will Newt.
Attack Romney and Obama. They are the enemies: not Newt or Rick.
Pigs will fly before Romney or Santorum wins Georgia over Newt. Do not believe this poll. Just another poll to try and demoralize Gingrich supporters. He’ll win Georgia.
They just have to show his record how he campaigned for mitt in '08. So ALL his talk about romneycare/obamacare NOW is null and void - since it's only 'talk' of a politician whoring for votes. He's dead meat - and ALL by his own record!
Mitt=Obama and he campaigned for mitt - SO WHAT'S HIS BEEF NOW? He can't say abortion because Mitt was pro abortion and ordered the catholic hospitals to comply and Rick STILL campaigned for him.
They’re not really even. Willard has kind of a lumpy head.
There will be no Santorum presidency.
same here but I am getting bored and fed up of seeing the usual suspects on certain threads attacking Newt.
Romney is the man to after and then obama, it’s pathetic to see the usual suspects putting up their usual threads thinking that it will help their man .
Santorum has less chance of being President than Ron Paul.
At least 60-65% of the electorate will not vote for him under any circumstances, once his past statements are examined.
If Newt cannot be President, I like a Secretary of Education Newt Gingrich.
Is that a prediction or a prophecy?
Romney’s Super Pac is running about $1 million anti-gingrich ads in Georgia. I dont know if Newt is running any ads in Georgia.
lol!
“.....fed up of seeing the usual suspects on certain threads attacking Newt.”
I am far more than fed up. This all seems to be a game for some folks and a religious crusade for others. It’s sickening.
In just a few more weeks we could very well know the fate of our country, our lives, the lives of our loved ones and the lives of future generations.
Perhaps it’s just me, but the fate of the nation seems kinda important.... much more important than picking someone I’d like to go to church with.
Newt can and will make the changes necessary to turn this country around, quickly and intelligently. Santorum may want to, but I don’t believe that he has what it takes to get the job done.
I literally hate Obama and his tribe... Romney disgusts me.
I think there is value in both Gingrich and Santorum, but for these times, we NEED Newt.
My prayers are for Newt and the survival our country.
President Newt Gingrich—”Our beloved republic deserves nothing less.”
