Romney gaining on Santorum in Michigan (What was once a 15 point spread has closed to 4 points)
American Thinker ^ | 02/20/2012 | Rick Moran

What was once a 15 point spread has closed to 4 points. PPP reports:

The Republican race for President in Michigan has tightened considerably over the last week, with what was a 15 point lead for Rick Santorum down to 4. He leads with 37% to 33% for Mitt Romney, 15% for Ron Paul, and 10% for Newt Gingrich.

The tightening over the last week is much more a function of Romney gaining than Santorum falling. Santorum's favorability spread of 67/23 has seen no change since our last poll, and his share of the vote has dropped only 2 points from 39% to 37%. Romney meanwhile has seen his net favorability improve 10 points from +10 (49/39) to +20 (55/35) and his vote share go from 24% to 33%.

What we're seeing in Michigan is a very different story from Florida where Romney surged by effectively destroying his opponent's image- here Romney's gains have more to do with building himself up.

Groups Santorum has double digit leads with include Protestants (up 47-30), union members (up 43-23), Evangelicals (up 51-24), Tea Partiers (up 55-20), 'very conservative' voters (up 54-23), and men (up 40-28).

Romney is leading the field with women (38-34), seniors (42-34), moderates (35-24), 'somewhat conservative' voters (40-34), and Catholics (43-31).

So we all knew the 15 point poll was either a flyer or manipulated to make it feel like doom and gloom when the actual gap was reported.

But the amazing thing is that Santorum has any kind of chance in MI, where Romneys DAD was a well-liked popular Governor for six years, Secretary of HUD, and President of American Motors. His wife was a Senator for cryin’ out loud - and the whole family was well respected.

The fact that Mitt isn’t just walking away with a 25+ point lead is the story here.

The Romney smear millions doing their evil work again.

His eight figure mudslinging may win him the nomination but Obama is gonna stomp his lyin’ ass so hard cuz all he is doing is trying to convince everyone that his Republican opponents are just as rotten as he is.

If they start on Rick’s religious belief in the debate, he needs to turn and ask Romney how his Mormon religion would impact his decisions in the WH.

There is no reason for Santorum to be singled out on how his religion would affect his decisions.

10% for Newt? America is making a mistake of historical proportions. This nation will want a do-over, within an hour after the first debate .

If the Midwest (GO MICHIGAN!), South, Texas, and the Mountain States do what is RIGHT...say hello to our nominee. And Newt will be in RS's Cabinet after Obama is defeated.

After Santorum's comments on the Dutch he can pretty well write off Michigan.

“There is no reason for Santorum to be singled out on how his religion would affect his decisions.”

There is EVERY reason for Santorum to be singled out on his religion. He has stated he is a devout catholic, he has brought the words theology and bible into play, he has stated sex is only for procreation, he has criticized the usage of birth control pills and the list goes on. He has based his candidacy solely on social, moral and religious issues. Personally, I think his religion will affect his decisions and I am not interested in him as the POTUS (Preacher of the United States).

In related news, the number of dead people rising out of the grave to vote has doubled in recent days.

IMPOSSIBLE!

I was ensured by Santorum voters that Rick was invulnerable, and that Romney’s attacks would only backfire! Rick’s numbers can only go UP!

There’s no way Mitt is going to close the gap on Rick in MI, because Santorum “has the big mo.” It’s not even worth waiting to count the votes, just declare Santorum the winner now! Plus, look at the polls taken after Santorum’s big Tuesday - he’s gonna win nearly EVERY state!

There’s no WAY Mitt comes back to win Michigan, absolutely NO WAY! Rick has the big mo, and has it all wrapped up. The rest of this whole primary season is merely academic.

The first poll was an outlier. The last poll is in line with the rest of the other polls I’ve seen (4-10).

I think the 2nd poll is more accurate. This should be close. I DO expect Santorum to win unless things change.

Wow, this is really spinning out of control. Where did he ever say sex is only for procreation or is that the latest lie the left wants to hang on him.

He doesn't believe in birth control but as he said, he doesn't think people should lie. That doesnt' mean he's going to try to ban lying.

The msm push is to make Rick look intolerant but it's the people who spread baseless accusations and attack him for his personal beliefs who are truly intolerant.

Internal polls that the Santorum campaign has access to indicate that the race has tightened and will be extremely close.
Romnuts is spending millions and unfortunately, it’s working for him again..ie, his dishonesty and lack of integrity proves that he is still rotten to the core.
Pray for Rick Santorum and his family.

If Santorum doesn't get his mind right he'll lose MI by 15 points.

This guy is going to drop so fast folks will wonder if his numbers weren't fabricated in the first place.

Drudge has turned his slime machine on again, and is trying to make Santorum look bad. He did it to Newt in Florida, and now I think he’s trying to do it to Rick.

Drudge did a yeoman’s job exposing Obama for the past several years, but now he’s basically undoing all that good work.
