CHICAGO (CBS) — Seven people were killed and 18 more were wounded – including a Chicago Police officer – in a violent weekend on the streets of Chicago.
One of the incidents left two people were dead, and five others injured, at a South Shore neighborhood liquor store Sunday evening.

Austin sees 4th homicide of 2012

Austin saw its fourth homicide of the year on Saturday, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
A 20-year-old man was shot to death in the 200 block of North Lorel Avenue, police said.
The West Side community area logged 30 homicides last year, RedEye data shows.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in North Lawndale, South Lawndale, West Englewood and West Town, according to RedEye data.
Eight homicides have been logged so far this month, RedEye data found. Twenty-five homicides were recorded in February 2011, according to RedEye data

January ended Tuesday with 40 homicides in Chicago, up 43 percent from 28 homicides recorded in January 2011, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.

When half (47%) the people in Detroit And New Orleans cannot read or write, I don't expect it's much different in certain sections of Chicago either.
Four days ago Chicago Police Superintendant McCarthy said “they’re bringing down the robbery and shooting numbers, and the murder numbers will eventually correct and reflect the progress they’re making.”
This is no surprise to anyone that has seen the South Side. Iraq might be safer.
Without taking the trouble to make an accurate count, a quick glance indicates ~85% black, and probably about 85% of those are young, black males. A large % of the remaining as "white" have Hispanic surnames.
I'd bet most of these murders are gang and drug related. If you're not involved in any of that, Chicago is a relatively "safe" place.
But stow the idle threats of Canute attacks. My Norvegian Elkhound can also impersonate a Chicago Pit Bull. BTW, this Great Dane intimidation thing leads me to believe that YOU might be a member of a Norvegian Street Gang, Lars!
