Sorry for the vanity post, but I'm feeling pretty insulted by a phony robocall from Mitt Romney's Michigan campaign headquarters today. Here's what happened:
I returned from an errand to discover a voice mail message, stating:
"Hi, this is Mitt Romney calling. I was calling your home to see if I could speak with you directly and ask for your vote directly, and maybe answer some of the questions that you might have for me. It appears that I've not been able to make that happen, but perhaps we'll run into each other at some point during the campaign." The message went on to speak of the importance of the election and defeating Obama, yada yada yada.
Let me get this straight: Mitt Romney is calling me, personally, to give me a few minutes to ask him questions? Yeah, right. Give me a break!
Ya know, even if Mitt were 'my guy' in this race, I'd be outraged at this transparent phoniness. He thinks we're stupid enough to believe that he singled us out for a personal phone call on a Sunday afternoon? Good God...
LOL I’ll be glad when this is over and Mitty has gotten his eviction notice.
Not even the perfect Michigan trees want him.
I predict there will be a rush of landline-cutting after this election. We took the axe to ours seven years ago and never regretted it.
The only reason I haven’t cut my landline is that I can’t get a cell signal down here in the holler.
Most winters I go out on the lake and sit there with a lawn chair to use the cell but there hasn’t been enough ice most of this winter to do it.
Could you put pontoons on it?
How the heck are you connected to the internet?? We just got access to DSL last October!
Cable internet here.
As much as I dislike Robney, I think this is standard fare for a phone bank of any candidate. The callers, either in the phone bank or distributed, work from the phone list. If an answering machine picks up, the live person presses a key to put the call in the queue to get a standard recording - typically from the candidate. What is a bit disingenuous is the wording perhaps, but the candidate script is written to somewhat personalize the message.
I live in Michigan also and am getting ticked off at the robo calls. Only an idiot would listen to them. after the first 3 words, I hang up...they usually call at about 10 am and I am still sleeping cause with insomania, usually get to sleep about 6am.....Does anyone really listen to these machines?....
We worked Missouri during the final week of the ‘04 election, St. Louis County. Ran a phone bank with live people, volunteers, made literally thousands of calls. We used no recordings whatsoever, only neighbors talking to neighbors.
It worked well. Bush carried Missouri, and we did well across the board.
They are wasting their time.
Sure, I understand that. But the candidate should be playing a generic message, not one saying 'Hey, I tried to call you so you could ask me questions!'
That's an insult to my intelligence.
And those happy little accidents when one is oil painting...On my oil painting it wasn't happy or accidental. Isn't this guy the one that use to say that....It was no talent on my part....LOL
Happy trees.
How DO you all do it? Trees have such wooden expressions.
Globull Warming.
every snow storm or rain storm, satellite goes out for a time....I was told by my Direct TV to go outside and wipe off the snow and ice from the satellite with a soft towel to get my signal back on and it works.
finally had a service guy tell me to spray my dish with Pam. It keeps the snow and ice from sticking and last year only had to go out once to wipe it off...bad ice storm that time....the internet service is slow with land lines but reliable...unless some one hits a pole with their car. then the phone service is down and so is the computer... I have had phone calls that when I hang up, they call right back....fixed that one by throwing the phone on the bed and going to the kitchen for a cup of coffee...they quite calling back...
Most winters I go out on the lake and sit there with a lawn chair to use the cell but there hasnt been enough ice most of this winter to do it.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Cold calling...
And Morel mushrooms. It’s about that time here in TX. Best place to find them on felled, rotted elm trees in creekbeds.
Our season is about 3.4 days :)
