Paul Babeu, an up-and-coming member of the Republican Party, stepped down from his role as a co-chairman of Mitt Romney’s Arizona campaign on Saturday, in the wake of allegations that he threatened to deport a Mexican ex-boyfriend when the man refused to keep quiet about their years-long relationship.

From what I could gather last night, it was sometime in the early 2000s. He worked for BP in the Yuma area for a short time but left to return to the Chandler PD, then became president of the local police group. He ran for Sheriff in 2008, defeating the long-time sheriff who was quite corrupt; he was also the first elected GOP official in Pinal county in decades, so it was a shock when he actually won. I didn’t move to Maricopa until the summer of 2010, so he already the sheriff at that time. I just assumed he was a native or long-time Zonie, but apparently that’s not the case.

My first thought when I saw this story on TV was that this Sherrif is outspoken on the border security issue and that the Obama administration dug up this info and was able to kill 2 birds with this one stone. The discredit the Sherrif with AZ voters AND they remove a “conservative” voice for Romney and other Republicans.
Has anyone seen the ex-boyfriend “Jose”? No, he is in hiding just like Herman Cain’s women went out of sight when their usefulness was over.

You must have missed the campaign Ad that Babeu did with McCain during the 2008 Primary against JD Hayworth where McCain is spouting lies about building “the dang fence”. McCainiac’s, Romneyites, same thing.

What angers me is I wish this had come out during McCain’s primary fight with JD Hayworth in 2010. Babeu was in a campaign Ad with McCain lying about building “a dang fence”. Opposition research would have paid off.
