An Open Letter to Rick Santorum:
Dear Senator:
As a strong, common-sense Conservative, I have a favor to ask of you. Could you please consider not answering, off the cuff, every question thrown at you? Would you please engage your brain before putting your mouth in gear? Im beginning to see now, how, as an incumbent, you lost your Senate seat by 18 pecentage points to the brain-dead Bob Casey. Women vote Senator; and, they vote in large numbers. Now, please consider this common-sense observation from a Conservative male:
Women have been in combat for years now. Women have used birth control for decades now. Some of your comments are so unbelievably naive. When you said that contraception was bad for America, I thought: Hey Rick, if we didnt have contraception, wed have millions more bastard kids to support through the Welfare system than we have now. People are going to have sex, Rick. Just because you believe it is primarily for procreation, some of us like a little intimacy with our spouse once in awhile without having 19 kids, like the Duggar family that has endorsed you.
Sorry, Rick, but, sometimes, you embarrass some of us who want to support you. And the comment, re: birth control, made by your biggest donor, Foster Friess, was over the top. He reminds me of Clayton Williams, the GOP candidate for Governor, who had the election in the bag against Ma Richards, until he made his stupid comment about women and rape.
Please Rick, you and Foster need to slow down, think, and then speak. Maybe a little more elucidation, before publication?
I wish you well.
If you want to deny the fact that folks who are the most upset and judgmental about the infidelity of others are those who are themselves currently in unhappy relationships, go ahead. I don’t have time or inclination to go finding the studies that prove it, so just ask any counselor or psych or pastor you run into — and get back to me when any of them disagree with my premise.
And yes, I am generalizing - which is valid - as long as you admit that you are generalizing. So yes, I think this is at the root of a lot of the virulent anti Newt folks.
Amen and pass the plate!
.. besides it's already so silly that no one should be surprised that Ronald Reagan must go because it appears that he too talked about aspirins -- I'm over 70 and I cannot imagine anyone NOT accepting the wisdom of that advice.. but hey! now it's Bill Clinton's how-to advice that's the norm. Shame. IMO.
Sorry, Rick Ronald, but, sometimes, you embarrass some of us who want to support you. And the comment, re: birth control, [was] your biggest [boner], . . . was over the top.
I didn’t say they did. I said IF (if is a word with a very specific meaning) that is your contention. You are free to make yet another contention if you want but I am really getting confused with it all at this point.

It’s 181 Bishops, and 100% of the Dioceses have spoken out against the HHS Mandate.
Are you serious? I don’t agree with his stance on contraception as a catholic, I’m an evangelical, but he has proven that he would not impose his view. His position on women in the military is for the majority of women, statistics prove that children fair better when raised by “mom” at home instead of “dad”. This is the best scenario if possible. Santorum is living in 2012 as are you and I- let’s get realistic people and stop attacking our own. The very reason that “what you see is what you get” with Santorum is why he is rising in the polls. He obviously never appears to be speaking from someone’s talking points, and consistently stays on point. Make up your minds, do you want a fake?
touche.
Woo Hoo! Thank you for posting the update ... and link!
not that you needed it .... besides, who’s gonna vouch for me?
What an ignorant comment. Women always have and continue to be banned from most combat positions:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2012/02/09/MNUF1N586D.DTL
According to defense officials, the new rules are expected to continue the long-held prohibition that prevents women from serving as infantry, armor and special operations forces. But they will formally allow women to serve in other jobs at the battalion level, which until now had been considered too close to combat.
And, there is good reason for any conservative with a brain to oppose women being anywhere near combat. Women in the military are nowhere near as physically capable as men and don't come close meeting the same physical standards as males in the military. That makes a big difference when it comes to carrying off wounded soldiers to safety or in hauling around heavy equipment.
And, yes, Ronald Reagan would and DID agree that military shouldn't be turned into an affirmative action program. It's mission isn't equality but to put together the most effective fighting force possible.
Santorum, however, shouldn't have said women are emotionally incapable of being in combat.
I got your back.
You know. I do not personally dislike you.
But you and the other “what culture war” posters here are part of the problem
I am/was a Newt person...have donated around 1000 to him
but it looks like Rick has the wind in his sails and if so then I will support him
if you don’t care about traditional issues then vote Romney
Newt is no slack on culture either and openly told same sex marriage folks not to vote for him
Were he is the limelight like Rick is now I doubt his answers would be much different
so what is your real beef?
i know you and others here for years...always wobbly on hot topics like these and race and whatnot
so what is it now?
Santorum is against abortion, against women in combat, against Govt forcing churches to pay for things they find against their creed.
what’s not to like?
He has publicly stated ad nauseum that his and his wife’s views on contraception are private and not about govt mandates
So why so canard?
[ As my cousin, a Pastor and marriage counselor confirmed to me from his 20 some years of counseling - the folks who are most bothered by the infidelity of others are those who are stuck in miserable marriages and who feel self righteously that everyone should stick it out in a miserable marriage as well. ]
That reminds me of the liberal argument that people who most strongly disagree with the homosexual lifestyle are themsleves most likely repressed homosexuals.
I realize that you think you’re approaching this fairly. But by allaying this kind of thinking to pretty much everyone who agrees with Santorum (not on the politics of what he says, but on what he says he believes), you deny that anyone can have an opinion based solely on the argument (contraception is good, is not good) itself. There will always be hypocrites, but surely you’ll admit they’re not the only folks arguing against contraception (or, for that matter, abortion or divorce). Is it a good, an evil, a neutral factor? for individuals, for society as a whole? for the children who survive it? for the economy, for the national defense? And the list could go on and on. There are objective ways to look at it and to measure its effects whether or not the arguers are happily married. No?
amazing that we have folks on a conservative site that actually think our culture is now better?
you know why?
they brainwashed over one or two hot issues....racism, sexism, homophobia
since in their eyes...that is now better then the old days must have been deplorable
well...I was around then..born in the dreaded 50s...things today are a cesspool of a dearth of the finer human qualities
replaced by self obsession and a collective intelligence that has collapsed even as we consider ourselves more educated
we are becoming like Brasil...culturally and demographically..anyone can go there to see where we are headed
Right Wing Social Engineering!!
Imposing one’s own personal morality on free people is Nanny Statism. Better to set the tone but not preach. We need a problem solver - not a Pope.
Follw the Ten Commandments and the Constitution.
Contraception is not abortion and abortion is not contraception. One is personal choice and one is murder!!! Taxpayers should not pay for either one.
Sounds like cowardice and surrender.
Actually, Santorum Is against birth control of all kind. He is on two videos saying so. The first video has him saying as president he would give every state the right to ban all contraceptives. The second video he goes on about the evils of contraception and how he is against it and why. It started playing this morning.
It is just as destructive to accuse women who have more than a couple of kids of having a “litter” than to make “those idiotic “birth control hurts women” statements”.
