A retired female fighter pilot running for former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' open seat in Congress said Friday that Rick Santorum's recent remarks on women in combat make her want to "go kick him in the jimmy."
Martha McSally, a retired US Air Force colonel and a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, is running in Arizona's congressional special election as a Republican. According to her Facebook page, she was the first American woman to fly in combat since the 1991 lifting of a ban on women in that role.
Appearing Friday morning on FOX News Channel's "FOX & Friends," she called the Republican presidential candidate "completely out of touch" for saying that the "emotions" felt by men seeing a female soldier in harm's way may jeopardize their mission.

“She has to go for the gonads.”
Good catch! But she’s just as tough as any man, of course, so she doesn’t NEED to use dirty tricks in a fight :P
I completely agree. We have 2 sons in the Marine Corps. Once, when discussing women in the service academies and combat, my wife said, "A woman's (wife/mother)job is to make Marines, not be one."
It ain’t purty, but it’s true.
Now they are serving on subs.
Isn’t that what Romney carries his guns and boar hunting knife in, when he goes to the boonies to hunt boar?
The funds raised in these FReepathons go to pay our current quarter expenses. But we're also going to try to replace some of our older servers and failing equipment this year so we're going to add a little extra to our FReepathon goals. John is estimating ten to fifteen thousand to do this and I'd like to get it all in place and working before the election cycle is fully heated up, so we'll try to bring in a little extra now, if we can, and the rest next quarter.
Jim Robinson
I had a very good friend during the last years of his sub career, and used to know other submariners and go to our local Horse and Cow.
The more one learns about sub life, the more on realizes what a totally alien life and social structure it is, individuals are not merely interchangeable as they were with my army life outdoors where social cohesion is much looser and tolerant, and where people have room to breathe and create a little space, and find distractions, and even change a negative dynamic.
Something that he described that was chilling, is on the rare occasion where the crowd focuses on an individual’s failings, or faults, and it can’t stop, they are all locked inside a tiny cage underwater and the negative focus has nothing to distract it, to to break it.
He said that individuals have had to be removed from a sub once an opportunity arose to accomplish that. I doubt that things will be smoother, or less complicated when the teenage girls and 20 year old divorcees are introduced into the tiny capsule for six month underwater lockups.
You are spot on about upper body strength problems with women pilots; this is confirmed by my pilot son (now Captain “Ace”).
I do concur that in most pure infantry situations that most females wouldn't be able to hack the usual load. 80 plus pounds of gear before you even add your weapon, ammo and ballistic vest with plates and combat helmet.
Insanity rules!
Exactly! Too many movies.
Whether you agree with her or not... she has every right to her opinion.
Women shouldn’t be in combat, period...For numerous reasons mentioned thousands of times.
In fact, there are plenty of men that can pilot that same aircraft and do it better, and have better chances of survival/escape going down behind enemy lines.
PC and leftist idiotic thinking, gets people killed all the time.
Shouldn’t she be making a sandwich or something?
Just the emotional response you’d expect from a woman.
“Female Combat Pilot Wants to Kick Santorum ‘in the Jimmy’ for Remarks on Women”
If she tries to kick a guy in the “jimmies”, she’ll feel the sting of the “pimp hand”.
“My own daughter was 54, and could take down of man of 200+ pounds with her boot at his throat in a matter of seconds. “
You are dreaming.
My daughter is 5’2”. For a time, she was convinced being a Marine was proof she could take on any guy. Then one night in a party, she got upset with a 6’ Army soldier and challenged him to a fight. He picked her up and tossed her across the room with one arm, then laughed and said she was cute. She picked herself up, and decided it was a good thing he thought she was cute.
I’ve seen girls win wrestling matches against guys the same size. But you won’t see women in MMA fights against guys twice their size - or MEN in MMA fights against men twice their size.
As a 5’7” male, I’m smart enough not to go around boasting I could take out a 6’4” male. Not unless I knew something he didn’t, or caught him by surprise. And my 5’2” daughter is now married to a 6’ ex-Marine...and she wouldn’t pretend she could beat him up. I wouldn’t either...
Too many movies, and too many folks believing those movies.
Let’s also not forget that expensive combat training that goes to waste when the female soldier decides to get pregnant, often right before a deployment, statistics show.
I guess that fighter jet for her was the ultimate strap-on or, well, strap in, cockpit and all.
There is an issue before the woman in combat thing and it is: How many better men were pushed aside so that a political goal of woman in certain jobs be attained?
