The Falkland Islands put on a show of strength against Argentine aggression and outspoken left-wing Hollywood actor Sean Penn - with a mile-long convoy of 4x4s. Dozens of Union Flag-waving Falklanders snaked their way out of the capital Stanley yesterday afternoon in a patriotic blur of red, white and blue. The procession, which looked at times like a summer carnival parade, is unlikely to scare Argentina into not launching an attack on the dispute archipelago. It is also doubtful it will force Penn, who has consistently backed Argentina in recent days, to keep his mouth shut. But it does act as a message from the 3,000 islanders who, amidst increasing tensions between Britain and Argentina, remain keen to stay under London's control.

I’d just tell the Argies that Maradona’s “Hand of God” is proper payment for the Falklands.

An ahistorical compirson based on lack of knowledge and relativism along with a anticolonial assumption. That and Argenitina is rulled by Socialists and the cooes in South America are supporting them.

The Falklanders have history, patriotism, and personal preference on their side, but Argentina has a bigtime Hollywood actor on theirs. Who are we to question the dictates of a bigtime Hollywood actor?

When I lived in California in the 1980’s, Mexico claimed the Channel Islands were actually part of Mexico. I dare them to try to take them back.
To: SkyDancer
What if the Channel Islands off the coast of California were claimed by Australia? Just saying, just wondering. The islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon lie 12 miles south of Newfoundland. They are French possessions and have been for centuries. Why? Tradition, settlement. The people like it that way and Canada isn't terribly bothered by it.
History happens. People settle where it might not have been expected. The Argentinian government returns to this "injustice" of the Falklands every couple decades when it has to take its citizens' minds off its latest terrible economic situation.

It would seem the Argentinians should concentrate on more important things than these rocks in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. If a referendum were held on who the local residents would give their allegiance to, Britain would win hands down. Has somebody discovered oil or gold there in the last 30 years? Bingo!

The islands of Jersey and Guernsey are mere miles from the coast of France yet are British territory.
The people in both islands are 100% English in name, culture, and every other measure.
The French are not demanding that the two islands revert to France.
The issue with the Falklands is that Argentina, while being a lovely country, is ruled by crackpots who occasionally need to drum up political support by finding an enemy. The UK is a convenient one because of the Falklands.
Every resident of the Falklands is 100% British in name and character. They should remain a part of England, period.
