Was anyone watching just now? Two women tried to jump in the ring just as they got the dogs in, were grabbed and screaming. Kudos to great security.
Don’t know if these 2 were part of it, but there were anti Romney protests because of him carting his dog on the roof of his car several years back. hehehehe... people can be weird!
I assume the women did not jump in the ring during the pit bull competition.
Right before the champion was picked, two PETA members were stopped by security as they tried to reach the center ring, drawing boos from the crowd. A few years ago, two protesters from PETA disrupted the presentation.( http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/D/DOG_SHOW?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2012-02-15-00-33-59 )
Who it was or whom ever they were the movement was toward the show floor. The staff at the show must have been on the lookout for such things because they reacted very fast.
Ther is a lunatic fringe of animal “rightists” who consider owning animals as pets slavery, and for work or competition downright abuse.
All brachycephalic breeds suffer to one degree or another yet when a judge puts up an especially deformed specimen, all the breeders rush to emulate the exaggerated deformity.
It’s all about “looks” and “winning”.
“Extremism” is rewarded in all breeds, now.
Form follows function...period.
I know of no “function” that requires a suffocating dog.
A good friend has a bunch of Pugs [rescues] who keep her up every night, one or more of them needing Benadryl, decongestant nose drops, support for collapsed tracheas and/or palates or manual airway cleaning *just* to survive another night.
The intentional deformation of a dog breed just so it’s “so cute” sickens me.
