Preschooler’s Homemade Lunch Replaced with Cafeteria “Nuggets”

State agent inspects sack lunches, forces preschoolers to purchase cafeteria food instead

RAEFORD — A preschooler at West Hoke Elementary School ate three chicken nuggets for lunch Jan. 30 because a state employee told her the lunch her mother packed was not nutritious.

The girl’s turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day.

The Division of Child Development and Early Education at the Department of Health and Human Services requires all lunches served in pre-kindergarten programs — including in-home day care centers — to meet USDA guidelines. That means lunches must consist of one serving of meat, one serving of milk, one serving of grain, and two servings of fruit or vegetables, even if the lunches are brought from home.

When home-packed lunches do not include all of the required items, child care providers must supplement them with the missing ones.

The girl’s mother — who said she wishes to remain anonymous to protect her daughter from retaliation — said she received a note from the school stating that students who did not bring a “healthy lunch” would be offered the missing portions, which could result in a fee from the cafeteria, in her case $1.25.

“I don't feel that I should pay for a cafeteria lunch when I provide lunch for her from home,” the mother wrote in a complaint to her state representative, Republican G.L. Pridgen of Robeson County.

If you really want to protect your daughter, get her out of the damnable socialist government indoctrination centers.

I just sent an email off to the author of the story asking who makes the nuggets and if they have a connection to Obama.

I will post it if there is a response.

Who are the Nazi-types they hire to enforce this crap

Must be some fool out of Chapel Hill, locally referred to as "Berkely East".

When my kid started school this year, the only "nutritional direction" I received from the teacher was if I came to eat lunch at school with them, to not bring "McDonalds", or some such.

Not because of any "nutrition requirements", but because the other 19 kids in the class would all want McDonald's too. Which is fine by me. My kids eat fast food so rarely that I can't remember the last time we went.

I think that a situation like this would only occur once. Then I'd be shopping for a new school. Or the state would be shopping for a new "Nutrition Counselor". Either would be fine by me, as well. :-)

“the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day”

That “agent” should have been immediately arrested; and those who hired him/her.

What is going on in this country? How did we get to the point where there are “agents” inspecting a kids lunch????

We are bleeping idiots if we can't use stuff like this to advance a conservative agenda and to elect people to take our country back.

Grrrr.....

No kidding. The “Heath Food” Czar putting the idea that the Gov’t knows best in childrens minds early...... Thank God this BS wasn’t around when I was in school...Nachos,Cheeseburgers,Pizza,and Tacos will probably be outlawed soon! (Let the Blackmarket begin!)

You see, according to Cocteau's Obama's plan... I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think; I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech and freedom of choice. I'm the kind of guy likes to sit with a greasy spoon and wonder - "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecued ribs with the side order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol. I wanna eat bacon and butter and BUCKETS of cheese, okay? I want to smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section. I want to run through the streets naked with green Jell-O all over my body reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly might feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiener". You live up top, you live Cocteau's way: what he wants, when he wants, how he wants. Your other choice: come down here... and maybe starve to death.-Edgar Friendly, Demolition Man

My daughter took.the same.lunch to.school almost every day of second grade: a yogurt cup and a corn muffin. And somehow, she managed to grow up without any state interference.

And I thought I had challenges raising a family back in the 70’s. I sure don’t envy you folks doing it today. I had plenty of set-to’s with educrats back then but threats of bodily harm weren’t reacted to as they are today.

I’m starting to really hate what this country has become.

If this was used in a sci-fi story a decade ago, the author would have been made fun of as crazy.

I’d be finding that FDA Nazi socialist democrat and properly “training” him/her to respect others and mind their own business. This is another example of the tyranny being imposed by our National Socialist Democrat Party.

Frank Quattrocchi came close in the early 50’s. I think Sea Legs should be required reading for everyone.

Yup the food police have arrived.

They always start with the children, next up they will be doing this to adults in any public place.

More indoctrination by the left; getting the kids acustomed to decisions of any/all kinds subject to the whims of the Federal Gov’t. I would hope freedom loving persons in that school district educate the bureaucrats on what they can do with their nutritional standards.

It's not so bad as all that.

I got out of a very liberal, very corrupt city and moved to a fairly conservative small town. Makes things exponentially easier. Cheaper too. Let Mrs WBill stay at home, which is likely the most important thing she'll ever do.

One key that I knew I was in the right place? When attending School functions, or just hitting the local playground.... Mom *always* shows up with the kids. And, usually, Dad is around too. If he can get off work.

It's not T'Shiniqua and her 5 kids by 5 different fathers. Or a 38-year-old-Grandma and the three children that were dumped on her by her own irresponsible kids.

So, despite all the venom heaped by FReepers on public schools, and over-reaching local bureaucrats ... they can still be avoided or combatted. It takes a lot of patient research, even more work, and constant vigilance, though.

And sometimes, I shudder to think of what had happened if I stayed in the city. The year after I moved away, some perv 3 houses down got nailed for diddling little kids. The city is in the process of laying off large portions of the (already overworked) police force....while spending 10's of millions on things like swimming pools and new Coliseums. Paid for by property taxes and voted in, largely, by people who pay none.

Bread and Circuses. The dates change, but history remains the same.
