Don’t act so high and mighty. There are many of us who place defeating Romney above our personal choice of candidate. Newt is still my first choice because he proposes a solution for slimming down our morbidly obese tax code.

I still don’t understand the Santorum surge, but you can’t argue with results.

I pray Santorum continues surging to win the nomination, so we don't have to hold our nose when we vote in November.

"And Santorum will be the hardest to smear, and any attempt to do so might backfire bigtime actually on Romney."

Santorum is nearly immune from attack on his weakest plank, his PERCEIVED Puritanical Religiosity, by any candidate in the GOP. At least 30% of the GOP primary electorate are values voters first, everything else after that.

Romney and Gingrich have only the "big government" angle, one which I suspect they will employ to some effect.

But not decisive.

But, just wait until September. The left has no such constraint and will do everything in their power to ridicule Santorum...and generate fear of "Theocracy" should he be elected.

It will be a very effective attack and I suspect Obama will win 58% of the vote against him.

I was originally for Perry. I still think he would make the best president of everyone we’ve seen this year. But he did blow it. Too bad.

You're presuming that the majority of Americans oppose values and are stupid enough to think that Santorum would really impose a 'theocracy' (like JFK did? Remember that threat?)

Obama's attack on the freedom of religion and war against the Catholic church isn't sitting well with a lot of Americans, and many of them are blue collar Dems.

Don't be pessimistic about the perception. I don't think the obvious smear will work.

That's absurd.

I've made my choice for Santorum after much thought and prayer, and I couldn't stomach Huckabee.

And there are a whole lot of others like me.

It's a ridiculous assumption on your part.

“A majority of Republicans desperately don’t want Romney”.

I would replace the word Republicans with the word Conservatives.

I don't hate Santorum. I hate Mitt Romney. I actually like Santorum.

For a thousand different reasons I think Newt would be a much better president. I believe he's a much deeper thinker. I believe he can articulate the conservative case better than Santorum And I think his record of accomplishment for the conservative movement is unparalleled this side of Reagan. Bottom line is I just think Newt has WAY more depth.

HOWEVER, I could happily vote for Santorum in November if my choice was between him and Obama. I just wish Santorum and Newt supporters would realize we have common cause, that they're both good people, and avoid fratricide within the conservative ranks.

I’d say you’re praying for the wrong thing. Pray instead for the best candidate to win. It’s what I do.

...yes...a Santorum candidacy will result in an Obama landslide...I can only hope the Catholic vote dips under 50% for Zero, if not, then this is an indictment of major proportions on the efficacy of the modern Church in conveying the Deposit of Faith to the flock...if the vote is north of 50%, I forthwith seek the nearest SSPX chapel and thumb my nose at AmChurch...

I am for Santorum.

But I don’t mind saying that I am a little nervous right now, as obama seems to be surging in the polls, and Romney, if he ends up being the nominee is showing that he can’t win anymore than Dole or McCain was going to win.

Can Santorum win a general? I sure hope so. But I am very worried that the savage beating he will take from the media will do him in....and they will stop at nothing.

That said, I don’t think Paul or Gingrich can win, either.

All in all, as of today, it looks to me like obama will be narrowly re-elected.

God help us. As a country, we could recover the damage that he has done in his 4 years, perhaps, we could recover the damage that he might do in 8. But I don’t think we can recover from the stupidity and immorality that is so dominant that it elected obama in teh first place, and, may well re-elect him.

"That said, I don’t think Paul or Gingrich can win, either."

Paul is definitely a NO - but Gingrich has a remarkable record of what he has accomplished.

We have to concentrate on which candidate can actually get our country turned around & quit the 'personal lifestyle' attacks. The rest of them have plenty of negative governing & voting records.

A GINGRICH/WEST ticket could blow Obama away!!

Amen to that!

Most Newt supporters don't hate Santorum, and vice versa. It's just a minority of blowhards who hate the other candidate and keep sowing dissension among us, and to me, they are a danger to the cause of conservatism.

Most of us will gladly work for either man, depending on who wins because we 'get it.'
