There are many reasons why a school may close a bathroom. Mostly, most public school bathrooms have been cleaned in years. They smell bad.I dread to use the bathroom in a public or college bathroom. Drug use and other behavior may be going on in these bathrooms.

Females need the bathrooms for more than just going tinkle.

I think this locking the bathroom solution is terrible.

I would paint the walls in chalkboard paint and keep chalk in the restroom—let the kids graffiti the wall, unacceptable words or images can be erased.

This school administrator is “pissing” me off.

Time for a real protest: A school-wide Piss-In.

If we can have an Occupoop Movement, then we can has a Piss Movement”.

...but don’t let a bar, restaurant or mall come up a stall short, or the Health Department will red tag and fine the business.

Yes, the graffiti is unsightly, lewd, crude, not very original or artistic; but in the end it doesn’t actually do any damage that the annual coat of paint doesn’t solve.

In fact, that graffiti can serve a useful purpose: decades ago, our coaches made cleaning it a punishment for minor offenses.

OH! Maybe they mean GANG graffiti? Oh, horrors! Can’t have a Pacheco Pachuco using a Clayton Crumbs toilet! Padlock that restroom!

The school needs a new principal.

Locking the restrooms is surely a code violation ;it sure is a violation of common sense.

I suppose California union teachers are too important to monitor student behavior as did my teachers of the 1960s.

If they can't find a rest room that is unlocked then simply find the nearest principal's’s office.

Probably about 10% of the kids at that school need to be simply kicked out - for good.

Watch how quickly things improve

Technically, the school administrator created an “unsafe” condition and may be fined accordingly.

NFPA 101 and the California Bldg Code express that conditions which cause a violation in the codes shall be deemed unsafe in violation of the codes.

In this situation, the ratio of restrooms per occupancy, if reduced below minimal standards, would violate the CBC and probably the Life & Safety Codes.

The school administrator had the authority to close the school, making it secure from public access, but not to eliminate public access to restrooms while the building is occupied.

Something seems off with this requirement, which affords 39 facilities per 900 boys, but only 20 per 900 girls:

“Diane Waters, an architect with the state Department of Education, said schools built before 1994 are required to provide one urinal per 30 boys, one toilet per 100 boys and one toilet per 45 girls.”

There is a two part epoxy anti graffitti paint.
I applies like regular paint but is so hard once the two parts set up and dry you can just wipe it down with acetone and the graffitti comes right off and leaves the paint looking just dandy.
I had that problem at the Albertsons in West Palm and glades and Military Trail.
Folks use to paint nasty things on the back wasll about the local police all the time so the code enforcement always wanted the nasty stuff covered.
It was a great continuing source of revenue for my company but eventually the store asked for the good stuff.
