CONCORD, Calif. Instead of beating the bell between classes at Mount Diablo High, senior Charles Campos often finds himself waiting frantically for a chance to use a rare unlocked restroom on the sprawling campus.
Relief has been hard to come by since beleaguered Principal Kate McClatchy closed all but one boys and girls' bathroom to the 1,400 students last year. Although McClatchy unlocked a second set of restrooms this week, the dearth of commodes may violate the state's education code. She refused to say why she did it, but district trustee Gary Eberhart said he's been told it's because of graffiti.
So while McClatchy may have solved one problem, she has indisputably caused another. The lockout has made Campos and other students late to class, and those who skip the urinals in favor of making it to class on time are antsy and distracted because they couldn't go. A few have resorted to urinating in stairwells or other places, Campos said.
"And there's no toilet paper," Campos told the school board Monday.
Recognizing the urgent cause, the school's Amnesty International club has launched a new campaign: "Pissing is a Human Right."

Damnatio Bathroomoriae.
It’s worse than Damnatio Memoriae.
Tried that at one place I worked, but they had to give it up.
Some of the engineers routinely got so wrapped up in the problems/plans they were using the pads for, that ‘rescue parties’ had to be sent after them.
ROTFLMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh oh oh the PAIN! I am laughing so hard it HURTS! LOLZ!!!!
Much like the kids in the story, I aim to please.
.... Oh so many snarky comments I could make... so little time... lolz
.... Oh so many snarky comments I could make... so little time... lolz but far be it for me to get into a pissing contest with you! Your sense of lyrical humor never misses the mark!
(Giggles)
This too shall pass.
Some shyster is going to take this case and be singing “urine the money” for the rest of his life.
Just another day in the Golden State.
I can just picture the school administrators being washed away when the, uh, “waters” come rushing back in.
Back in my day (70s) the graffiti in the UCLA bathrooms were masterpieces of erotic wit. What a humorless society nowadays!
I don’t believe in punishing every kid for the actions of a few. The principal needs to find out which kids did it and make them clean the graffiti PLUS clean the bathrooms for two weeks or be suspended. Or both maybe. I prefer them cleaning the bathrooms. I like old fashion punishments.
We should applaud the morons that are creating conservatives out of our college students.
that is a seriously brilliant idea. but grafitti pales compared to one negligence lawsuit against the district
when someones kid is seriously injured or killed as a result of criminal activity.
at work the common area whiteboards are kid territory.
some draw ninjas, other practice their calligraphy
on top of the einstein/feynmann quotes.
schools aren’t not all bucolic and playful today as in days of yore, the kids of today are dangerous, unpredictable and even more so when in gangs/on drugs.
the little bandits ruined it for the young scholars.
That might wash it off, if they used water soluble paint.
No the “little bandits” didn’t ruin it.
The administration’s inability to run their school did.
The administration’s inability to control the troublemakers.
The administration’s inability to protect the good kids from the bad kids.
All of THAT is what led to this.
It IS NOT the students responsibility to police the other students. As a matter of fact, if kids try to intervene when others are doing wrong, the ones who are trying to do good are punished.
(I could replace any and all instances of the word “inability” above with the word “unwillingness” and probably be more correct.)
“Think about the kind of person who becomes an urban public school administrator.”
Nope.....don’t wanna go there. I don’t “get” most of them.
“That might wash it off, if they used water soluble paint.”
That there is funny, I don’t care who you are. lol
