Santorum surges into the lead (National poll Santorum 38%, Romney 23%)
Public Policy Polling ^ | 02/11/2012 | Public Policy Polling

Riding a wave of momentum from his trio of victories on Tuesday Rick Santorum has opened up a wide lead in PPP's newest national poll. He's at 38% to 23% for Mitt Romney, 17% for Newt Gingrich, and 13% for Ron Paul.

Part of the reason for Santorum's surge is his own high level of popularity. 64% of voters see him favorably to only 22% with a negative one. But the other, and maybe more important, reason is that Republicans are significantly souring on both Romney and Gingrich. Romney's favorability is barely above water at 44/43, representing a 23 point net decline from our December national poll when he was +24 (55/31). Gingrich has fallen even further. A 44% plurality of GOP voters now hold a negative opinion of him to only 42% with a positive one. That's a 34 point drop from 2 months ago when he was at +32 (60/28).

Well lets wait and see how Ricky fares after he receives his sliming from Mitt next week. Newt rocked at CPAC. The only guy with a clue of what to do to restore the constitutional republic.

So who are you supporting, Romney? Gingrich is collapsing and Santorum is surging and you’re badmouthing him. You want Romney as the nominee?!

This news makes me giddy. Our two front runners have pulled up lame and the pony running with the back of the pack is going to win by default. The last time he raced he lost by 17 laps. I would love to hear substantial issues from him, but he is just thrilled because he raised 3 million in twenty four hours and that someone loves him.

I’m not, and never have been, a “Santorum supporter”.

I kind of “leaned towards” Newt somewhat, but I was never committed to a particular candidate — I realize that the most important goal is to remove Obama, and that whoever “the candidate” is will be but the vehicle with which to achieve that goal.

Having said that, the reason I see Mr. Santorum’s popularity rising as Mr. Romney’s declines is that — like him or not — Rick Santorum actually seems to stand for something, whereas Mitt Romney most obviously stands for nothing in particular....

EXACTLY! Santorum has had a free ride this whole time. Mitt's minions are turning their guns on him now. We will see how he holds up. If he can weather the negative, lying, disgusting onslaught that Newt has had to endure, well then maybe he is strong enough.

We have 24 days until Super Tuesday. And we have seen in this race how opinions can shift on a dime. Millions of dollars in negative ads, poor or outstanding debate performances, so many things shift people's opinions. Why is that? Each candidate has a committed base of support. The rest of the electorate are shifting back and forth because they are desperate to have Obama gone and they are vacillating on which one will be the right one to do it. I would love to see if the polls asked how committed they were to their choice.

I have posted this before and I will keep posting it. We have a LONG way to go. Info from Real Clear Politics:

Raw vote totals:

Romney- 1,119,298; Gingrich- 838,352; Santorum- 430,787; Paul- 305,840
Delegate count right now:

Romney-90, 17 of those are non-binding
Santorum- 44, 41 of those are non-binding
Gingrich- 32, 3 of those are non-binding
Paul- 13, 5 of those are non-binding

Total Delegate count needed to win- 1144

Too bad Newt’s bombing. Santorum and Newt are both viable alternatives though but here you are with your condescending “Ricky”.

It was boring old conservative men that founded and built the greatest nations on this planet. I’d take them in a heartbeat over the PR obsessed idiots we have now.

“By switching the target on Romney we keep him off balance and he loses focuses”

The problem with that strategy is that the delegates not going to Romney are getting split between Newt and Santorum, so in the end, Romney will still have the most delegates.

This 3-way race will hand him the nomination because he always finishes first or second. Just check the delegate count so far and you’ll see that this strategy is not working. Somebody needs to drop out.

My sister asked her co-workers if they really believed the economy was turning around and they all said no.

Even if they fix the numbers, people know when they can’t find work, when businesses keep closing, when inflation is on the rise.

Think on the spectacle being a tag-team wrestling match.
First Newt was beating the heck out of Romney. Romney came back swinging wildly and got in a good punch to knock Newt off balance...Newt takes a step back, allows Romney to swing at the wind. Santorum is tagged, jumps into the ring, POW, POW POW. He takes it to Romney. Now it is Romney turning in the ring, trying to figure out who he is...maybe a severe conservative,...probably not. In the mean time Rick is still getting in a couple of punches getting, ready to tag Uncle Paul who will get a few licks in too. Newt is getting back on his feet, sees the real target, BO< and will be ready to take Romney on once again.

Each time one of the candidate jump into the ring the crowd roars....Their numbers soar. Loser will be Romney. He just hasn't figured it out yet. After all he bought the shiniest robe, shorts, gloves and the refs and arena are also bought and paid for by his blind trusts.

When you let the media tell you that someone with the credentials of Rick Perry cannot be president because he gaffed some debates - you let THEM control the discussion.

I did not support Perry. However, I agree with your post big time. The problem is how can we change it? The press is very influential regardless of what we believe. I think that we can ignore the polls more than the general public but we are 10 percent of the public. When you see the “frontrunner” on every channel and every news release during that time, I can see how people would get interested in that person. However, when you see a candidate make an error and it is blasted all over the place, you could see how people would turn on that person depending on what the gaff was (American public, not us). I just have no idea how we are going to change this paradigm.

management does not permit me to promote my candidate here, but it is not Romney, lol, I am a conservative. Newt is acceptable to me, Santorum is not, Santorum was Bushs’ man in the Senate, no more Bushes and no Bush clones either!

There is no doubt that Santorum will be taken down and that will be easy to do. Mitt is in a tough spot. He can't take Santorum down before Newt is really dead, or Newt will surge again. If Romney waits too long, Mitt might not recover.

Newt is in a tough spot relative to going after Santorum too. He is danged if he does, danged if he doesn't. My preference is for Newt to go after Santorum in the near future, regardless of what Mitt does.

.

“King of the Hill is a children’s game, the object of which is to stay on top of a large hill or pile [while] other players attempt to knock the current King off the pile and take their place...Ordinarily pushing is the most common way of removing the king from the hill, but there are significantly rougher variations where punching or kicking is allowed” (Wiki)

Bachman,,Perry, Cain, Gingrich, Romney have all led the polls–Can Rick now stay on top? If he can, he deserves the nomination.
