This year another advertisement entered a crowded field, without pomp but predicated on real-world circumstance–Chrysler’s “Halftime in America,” featuring a weathered but resolute Clint Eastwood. He isn’t exactly selling anything in the spot, which is filmed to resemble a political ad if it were produced by Paul Haggis (Eastwood’s collaborator on Million Dollar Baby and the director of Crash). Instead, he aims to jolt, then scold, but ultimately soothe the viewer. First seen walking from the shadows of a hazy football game, he hunches his shoulders walks with a tired grace. Speaking in a voice so gravelly you could walk across it, he declaims that the American auto industry’s primary focus has been compromised by the “fog, division, discord and blame,” but America “knows how to come from behind to win.”

Clint is walking down a dusty street in a western town.
In the background, the main theme from THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY is playing.
Clint stops. He pulls back his serape revealing his revolver.
The camera pulls in for a closeup of Clint’s face.
He pulls the cigar from his mouth and says,
“Hey! You Democrats and UAW members! Get this thievin’ money-grubbin’ politics out of the car makin’ business!”
The screen goes black.
You hear two gunshots.
The music gets louder.
I think you’re reading too much into it. But, after three years of Obama, and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Ried, a little paranoia is understandable.

I agree with you. This was meant to say that Obama is not done. He needs a second half. Afterall, he’s the one credited with saving the auto industry.
and.. I might add you taxpayers will never see a dime of it returned. Oh do they now have to pay taxes of any profit?
Maybe its halftime for Chrysler, but its Game Over for Chrysler’s Bondholders.......
The crazy coach needs to be removed at half-time and a sane replacement needs to finish off the game.
Almost like having the horrible QB replaced with the much better 2nd stringer who pulls off a miracle.
We are 15 Trillion to Zero and we need a miracle comeback. Obama is not the answer, he is the problem.

No, that is what they want us to think it’s about. Slick advertising is not going to convince me to buy a Government Motors product.
Is ALL of the bailout money paid back with interest? Where can one go to verify that they have paid back all they owe the taxpayer? I hope what you are saying has absolutely happened. That would be some very good news.

Its on Forbes.com The way I see it, with the pics of the firemen, that was a Bush reference to 911 and not depicted in a negative light. If you understand the game of football, half time is about adjustments, not the status quo. Although it was an apolitical ad, in my eye’s it was about change. The team that is down makes adjustments to come back and win. I saw this ad not as a 2d term for obamamama, but as an adjustment to the status quo and to me that is getting rid of the current white house.
"We make turbines for all kinds of energy production." They never showed their tax-subsidized wind turbines, just the one's they make for gas and nuclear power plants.
I think Ford's finance arm got some $ to help them over the hump. They didn't get a direct bankruptcy/bailout though.
I applauded them with my wallet, and am pleased with my Escape.

Well, I heard no reference to politics or any leader. I liked it a lot.
If we had an opposition party in this country they’d be screaming to have GM billed for an in-kind campaign contribution to Baraq.
However, we don’t have an opposition party in this country, so I guess we can forget it.
