This is a slam dunk for Newt. He goes after Romney, the Soros-approved candidate, on his comments about the very poor and torches the idea that the ‘safety-net’ is anything but a spider web that traps the poor:
It isn’t good enough for the Republican party to nominate Obama-lite. Now, let me tell you what the difference is. If you’re a genuine conservative, first of all you don’t say that you don’t care about the poor. If you’re a genuine conservative, you believe that we are endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights, among which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
And we think it is the left which has abandoned and betrayed the poor because its safety net is actually a spiderweb and it traps people in dependency.
My goal – the exact opposite of Governor Romney. My goal is not to ignore or forget the poor. My goal is to turn the safety net into a trampoline to allow the poor to rise and be like the rest of us and have a job and buy a house.
He even refers to Romney as “Little Food Stamp”:
We now know from Governor Romney [that] he joins Obama. Obama is Big Food Stamp. He’s Little Food Stamp. But they both thing food stamps are OK. I don’t think food stamps are a future for America. They are a necessary bridge back to getting a job and back to being independent of the government.

Well, while no fan of Newt, if he wants to truly help Conservatism ... be prepared for next debate and knock it out of the park. Watching Romney and thinking he is going to be the nominee is just sickening.

The presumed Great Debater didn’t fare too well in the last 2 debates.
For all the hoopla about him going to decimate Obama in debates, Romney did him in pretty good.
He can only attack the media so many times in debates before that gets to be old hack.

You’re right... and that’s why the video’s worth seeing. The other thread I posted that summarized this speech led some to argue that Newt was “anti-rich”-—and as you state, that’s not at all what he said.
I know that’s why I said it.

Rich get richer, poor stay poor and more of them, and the middle class gets served the bill. Minimum Wage increase will put more out of work and close businesses.

I know you watched the debates but some how you missed the barrage of LIES thrown at Newt Gingrich by Liberal backing Romney and the the media not allowing Newt Gingrich to respond, such as going to a commercial Or that it was a set up with STUPID QUESTIONS that had nothing to do with what is really wrong with our Country. AND YOU know that too.
Or maybe it is that you want to believe the Lies? Or is there something YOU know that hasn’t been repeated and refuted over and over again with facts on FR.
