Antarctica is so vast that the pictures give you no sense of scale. The pencil-thin line across the satellite image of Pine Island Glacier (above) is actually more than 18 miles long, 800 feet across in places, and 180 feet deep.

When hairline cracks appear in the A380, it’s no big deal. So what’s the problem here?
It is contrary to the nature of their job, but considering how generally ignorant and frequently stupid most reporters are it would be nice if they just shut up for awhile. It would give the rest of us time for our eye muscles to recover from excessive rolling each time we come across one of these articles.

The article says it will “probably” float northward. DUH! Ya Think? With Antarctica at the southern most point of the globe, there is only one way for it to go.
