The Republican National Committee will not support Newt Gingrich in his quest to add some Florida delegates to his count.
The former Speaker's campaign argued it deserves some delegates out of Florida despite the state party's position that its contest is winner-take-all.
But an RNC memo obtained by The Hill says that is not a possible scenario.
"With regard to proportionality, the RNC does not have the authority to intervene in a states primary plans beyond the imposition of the Rule 16 penalties," the memo says, referring to the state's loss of half its delegates for moving its primary up to January. "A contest procedure exists for challenges to a states delegation or delegates. The RNC cannot consider any issue regarding Floridas delegation unless and until a proper contest is brought."
An RNC source said that Florida's plan as submitted in the fall said the state would be winner-take-all, and their plan could not be changed.
Even if there were a way to challenge proportionality in Florida, no one in the state party has shown any interest. Lenny Curry, the state GOP chairman, on Thursday painted Gingrich's campaign as a sore loser for making the argument.
Florida was the first state to award its convention delegates on a winner-take-all basis. Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina all awarded theirs proportionally.
Gingrich's campaign circulated a memo on Wednesday questioning whether Romney won all 50 delegates or whether they should be proportional an "unsettled question which will not be resolved until the Republican convention in Tampa this August."
Former Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum, Gingrich's state chairman, reiterated that point on Thursday morning.
"You've got to realize that whoever was going to lose was going to make this challenge," he said on Fox News. McCollum said the challenge would be brought "to contest committee, then on convention floor."
Gingrich has argued his campaign will go to the convention, and this is likely his way as painting the nominating contest as a fight for delegates instead of racking up primary and caucus wins.
It takes 1,144 delegates to win the Republican nomination. Mitt Romney has 71; Gingrich has 23; Rick Santorum has 13; Ron Paul has three; and Jon Huntsman has two, according to a count by The New York Times.

TRANSLATION: You are not the establishment candidate, so we will cheat just like Democrats to keep you out, Newt.
Best regards,
The Repuglicant Establishment
I hope Newt fights this, as the rules ARE the rules...RNC rules, at that!
Not only does Romneys coronation get rid of the Tea Party and conservatives for Rove and his RINO Country Club Status Quo bunch, it helps the dems keep the continuity of their schtick.
Obama and Romney are IDENTICAL politically, ESPECIALLY when it comes to the VERY important decision on permanently totally repealing Obamacare.
Obama can counter every political Romney arguement with I know YOU are, but what am I and clobber him over the head HARD with the 99% crap that hes a 1%er.
Geeee....that only leaves ONE itty - bitty difference.
Wanna guess what THAT is??????
Try skin pigmentation.
It worked for Obama BIG TIME in 2008. Romney is the ONLY candidate they can REALLY use it on because they are identical in almost every other way.
Romney WON'T attack Obama like he has Newt, because they will pin the "racist" tag on him so fast that his head will spin faster that his political flip-flops.
So Myth will "play nice" with Obama, he'll try to get everyone to sing "America The Beautiful" ( the fake crap he semms to be doing at ALL his Florida stops) and get KILLED in Nov, as is the GOP-e"plan" , except Romney AND Rick don't seem to see it......YET.
Lil' Ricky WILL be "handed" the VP slot (as his "reward" for helping Romney AND Rove in taking out Newt,) to "shut up" the "Santorum" and Tea Party "Conservative" people and with Romney's defeat, ensure Lil' Ricky won't be a problem to Rove and the GOP-E EVER AGAIN. With the Tea Party out of the way of BOTH parties for 2012 and 2016, Romney out of the way for 2012 AND 2016, the dems TOTALLY despised after 8 years of Obama, Rove and the boys can run Jeb for 2016 with NOBODY in their way.
OBTW, The pic below was taken last Friday afternoon Jan27th, 2012 , the day after "Bloody-Up Newt" Thursday by every RINO Country Clubber in this particular corner of the universe.
How many photos of those three together have YOU seen??
Pretty much ALL the polls earier in the week had Newt leading in Florida, until the "suddenly" orchestrated RINO Newt attack which culminated Thursday before the debate, and THEN on Friday, I see THIS photo??
What in the heck could the three of them "constructively" have important enough in common to "get together" and talk about??
Maybe Barry just wanted to ask them over to find out how "W" was doin', you know, the son and brother of the two guys in the pic who he STILL TO THIS MINUTE blames EVERYTHING bad that has happened to date in his administration on and two years before he replaced him in office???
Yeah, that's the ticket.
I have an idea, and I mentioned it in the post above the pic..
Newt and Sarah have been TRYING to warn the Tea Party and Conservatives about this BIG TIME!!
(Sorry, but my Reynolds Wrap cap dang near fell off when I saw the pic.)
THIS is why people are upset with Lil' Ricky.
Either he is TOTALLY IGNORANT, or he's "in on the deal".
There is NO in between.
The only logical alternatives are:
This means a roughly 60%/40% delegate split or net 20 for Mitt. But the bigger problem is that Florida is able to skate for violating the primary rules (the logic of which would be a topic for another discussion) and suffer no penalty.
It sets a poor precedent for a relative handful of delegates.
Still, at this point, I understand that Newt needs to fight for every single delegate. But it can't help but revive memories of Al Gore in Florida in 2000 fighting for every vote and attempting to change the rules ex-post facto. Not a good move, IMHO.
Particularly when Newt will be going into some very winnable primary contests.
bumping this pic of jeb, 41, and obama before the fl primary tt.
Great post...I think he’s in on it...just my gut...and it ‘s never wrong.
In other words, the rules don’t matter
"In other words, the rules dont matter"
The Romneybots know the real Golden Rule: He who has the gold makes the rules.
wow, what’s with this picture? Seriously, does anyone know the basis of the meeting? I find the timing and people in the room disturbing on several levels.
The helll with the RNC! They are owned by the same establishment the Rats are owned by!
The Florida primary was set up early by the establishment.
They wanted Romney to win Florida which falls in the spin to get this thing over and done with. How many months has it been reported that Romney was the front runner/the candidate on the way to the presidency. The conservatives and the Tea Party have been causing them problems.
It is disgusting, isn’t it? We are so screwed.
Obama hosts George H.W. and Jeb Bush at White House
Excerpt:
“Unbeknownst to the press, President Obama met Friday evening with former president George H.W. Bush and his son, former Florida governor Jeb Bush, in the Oval Office.
White House officials did not list the meeting on the president’s schedule but released a photo on Flickr. According to the photo’s time stamp, the meeting occurred shortly after 5 p.m., about the time the president returned to the White House from a fundraiser.”
An example of why I NO LONGER SUPPORT THE RNC OR THE REPUBIC PARTY!
