Obama: Jesus would tax the rich By: Jennifer Epstein February 2, 2012 10:12 AM EST
President Barack Obama tied his proposal to raise taxes on wealthy Americans to his faith on Thursday, telling leaders gathered for the National Prayer Breakfast that Jesus teachings have led him to that conclusion.
The rich pay more not only because I actually think that is going to make economic sense, but for me as a Christian, it also coincides with Jesuss teaching that for unto whom much is given, much shall be required. Obama said at the Washington Hilton, delivering remarks at an annual event that every president has attended since Dwight D. Eisenhower.
We can all benefit from turning to our creator, listening to him, Obama said. Avoiding phony religiosity . This is especially important right now when were facing some big challenges as a nation.
When I talk about our financial institutions playing by the same rules as folks on Main Street, when I talk about making sure insurance companies arent discriminating against those who are already sick or making sure that unscrupulous lenders arent taking advantage of most vulnerable among us, Obama said, I do so because I genuinely believe it will make the economy stronger for everybody, but I also do it because I know far too many neighbors in our country have been hurt and treated unfairly over the last few years. And I believe in Gods command to love thy neighbor as thyself.

"Which passages of Scripture should guide our public policy? Should we go with Leviticus, which suggests slavery is ok and that eating shellfish is abomination? How about Deuteronomy, which suggests stoning your child if he strays from the faith? Or should we just stick to the Sermon on the Mount - a passage that is so radical that it's doubtful that our own Defense Department would survive its application? So before we get carried away, let's read our bibles. Folks haven't been reading their bibles."
Yes, let's not get carried away.
gmta. But you’re faster!
I do know Jesus would over turn the tables at Fannie and Freddie and whip the crap out of Barney Frank and Chris Dodd....
How much did Obama and Biden give to charity again?
Did he also mention that mohammed would rob them, enslave them and rape their children?
2 Corinthians 11:14
And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.
So the Kenyan Muslim thinks Jesus Christ was a big government socialist?
Wow... If the boy Marxist isn’t flushed down the toilet like a turd in November, America is in real big trouble.
“Listen more closely you asswipe, and you might hear Almighty God telling you to stop presiding over the ever expanding number of murders of the unborn.”
Excellent point....Obama the Hun rabidly supports the right of women to kill their babies and refuses to give medical aid to the little fighters that actually survive the barbaric procedure.
Of course in 21st Century America Christ couldn't get elected to Congress...
Obama and Jesus in the same sentence? Now that’s repulsive.
Took the words right out of my mouth.
Jesus taxed no one... ever..
Why should he, he inherited everything, everyone, everywhere..
The King of King’s has no need to be a parasite ..
Only the heirling makes demands on his servants(taxes)..
(John ch 10)
The Lord of Lord’s has zero needs..
You know B.O.it is a sin to lie,you are no more Christian than Madalyn Murray O’Hair..Go away moron we are sick and tired of your lies..
Baloney. You can judge his behavior, just as Scripture teaches, but his eternal fate which will be determined during his particular judgment is up to Almighty God.
I don’t get offended easily. In fact, I am not sure, but this queezy feeling that this causes might actually be me being offended by this heathen’s attemtp at scripture interpretation and sermon.
Please, sir, on behalf of a struggling country, fake anything else you want. But stay out of my house and my religion.
The President brings shame to Christianity when he misses this bad trying to appear faithful. That offends me.
Jesus would smite Obama and send him back to the darkest bowels of the netherworld kingdom of Hades that he came from.
Not only are his statements offensive to Christians but nothing says he is not a Christian like talking about these things at a National Prayer Breakfast. He should have called the nation to humble themselves and pray for help for our nation. I noticed too that true to form he used”I” 7 times in one short paragraph.
Actually, one of the big political issues of the day, which supported the wealthy at the expense of farmers and other poor people during Jesus’s day, was the high level of taxation on those who couldn’t afford to pay. In particular, taxes had to be paid in Roman coin, but there was a scarcity of Roman coin in the barter economy of first century Israel. The result is that the well-connected could use their access to scarce coinage to force the poor farmers to sell land at discounted prices in order to raise the coin necessary to pay the taxes. Though Jesus often spoke against the rich for reasons like this, even He said “Render to Caesar what is Caesar’s.”
Obama, of course, doesn’t advocate lowering taxes on the middle class or anything like that, which would be more consistent with what was going on economically in Jesus’s day. Obama only advocates raising taxes nominally on people who have the resources to find ways to avoid them, or who have the ability to pass those taxes on to employees and customers. And of course, if there is any extra money raised by increased taxes, it goes to crony-capitalist campaign contributors like Solyndra, etc, or to organized political supporters in the form of “stimulus.” Which is actually somewhat similar to the corruption in Jesus’s day.
I thought it was the Bankers HE threw out of the Temple?
