Whatever happened to the good old days, when the MSM glorified "speaking truth to power"? We all know the answer: that epoch ended on January 20, 2009.
Nowadays, opposing power, particularly in the person of the president, far from being something to be praised, is downright illegitimate in some liberal media eyes. Take the latest "Lean Forward" promo by MSNBC, in which Ed Schultz actually claims that those "standing up to the president" are nothing but "bullies."

Cue the Racist Kid!!!
In other words, leftists never argue based on the merits of the issues and concerns being raised, because they can’t.
Instead they attack their opponents as illegitimate, intellectually/morally inferior, or, in the case of their prototype communist template country, USSR, classify opposition as “insane”.
Because if you, as a conservative attempt to point out logical fallacies, unsubstantiated claims, erroneous assumptions or false premises, they will not attempt to counter your argument. Instead, they'll call you a name and accuse you of something.
They do seem to like to present their “arguments” in forums where they will not be challenged.
I assert that this is why they were so mad at Juan Williams about serving up the low hanging curveball for Newt to hit out of the park.
It’s not that he was making a “softer” argument than any of them ever do, it’s just that he did so in a forum where the assertion could be challenged.
I think it is because the left argues in emotional terms, not necessarily rational. When cornered, they retreat to what they know. Emotion.
Among those tools is the science of group dynamics, which can take several forms. One of the better-known ones is the "Delphi Technique" - a dishonest use of the discussion forum where a person claiming to be an independent "facilitator" is really an interested party who subtly directs like-minded group members against dissidents.
Another is the employment of unearned guilt as a weapon of shame in a public setting. If you have a Jewish mother like I do, you'll understand that one implicitly.
Juan Williams, for his part, is viewed by many on the Left as a traitor simply because he works at FOX News, regardless of the fact that he is most frequently a doctrinaire liberal (albeit one who occasionally displays a flash of insight and logic).
Got a joke for you...
A Jewish mother bought her son two shirts for his birthday.
To show how much he appreciated the gift, he put one of them on.
His mother then said “What? Don’t you like the other one?”
That’s true. People on the Left frequently revert to emotion as a means of argumentation because their ideology is largely feeling-based. It further leads them to argue from a normative point of view (what should be) as opposed to an empirical one (what is) and also to invert cause and effect in order to avoid unpleasant realities.
How many Jewish mothers does it take to change a light bulb?
"Don't bother: I'll sit in the dark".
Ed who?
I’ve been called a bully many times. I wear the label with pride.
