Mitt Romney to Receive Secret Service Protection (Why not Newt?)

TAMPA – Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign has been informed that it will start receiving Secret Service protection this week, two campaign sources and a senior Republican tell ABC News.

Secret Service protection is being given to the campaign not because of a specific threat but because of the increase in crowd sizes as the primary season has progressed over the past few weeks, according to the sources, who refused to be identified because they don’t have authority to comment on such matters publicly.

According to a federal law enforcement officials Romney’s campaign, which has long traveled with private security of its own, did request Secret Service protection. However sources tell ABC that the campaign did not make the request, but was approached about the additional security steps in the weeks following the New Hampshire primary.

The Secret Service is charged with protecting presidential candidates in addition to the president himself, and providing protection to a candidate before he secures a nomination has become fairly common. Such decisions are made by the Department of Homeland Security, in consultation with congressional leadership.

Officials with the campaign and the Secret Service declined to comment on the decision.

Romney will become the only current Republican candidate with Secret Service protection. Herman Cain became the first candidate to receive Service protection, in November, but he ended his candidacy in December.

Only makes sense to protect your friends and arm the enemies of your enemies.

Like if some nut goes after Rick or Newt, he will probably have a “Fast and Furious” weapon.

When I met him, I thought he had it. Newt had a security detail around him that looked and acted very much like Secret Service.

Yeah, probably was his own security people. If I were Newt, I wouldn’t trust the secret service. But, my question is why are they giving mittens government protection and letting others pay out of pocket?

It’s a done deal all right. Now, it’s time to seriously look to a third party.

I will not be part of this dynasty created by the establishment republicans nor will I vote for their preselected candidate for president.

I’ve had it. The rest of you can follow the GOP like lambs to the slaughter but I believe this election is our last chance to regain our rights and country and if the voters don’t rise as a conservative block, they will never have the chance again.

I believe that if we lose this election to Obama or a republican robot, our country will enter a period of armed revolution. If it does not, the government will have its jackboot on our throats and will outlaw the private ownership of all guns. It’s already happening on two fronts: The Obama administration of complete disregard to the Constitution and Bill of Rights along with many tiny regulations concerning the sale of ammunition, guns and control of information pertaining to the owners thereof.

To everyone who holds their nose and votes GOP: What you are really doing is holding your nose and jumping into a cesspool of corruption and will quickly find that you will drown, for at sometime you will have to breath under that sludge.

My wife and I will never vote for Romney after he he conducted himself and how he ignored the base here in FL.

We’re done with the establishment and done with Romney for good.

Romney spent millions here, had 13,000 ADs to Newts 200 and all of Romneys’ ADs were pure lies and attacks and not one said what Romney has done because he hasn’t done a damn thing.

He has ignored the base, his staff has made fun of the base and then Romney last night I heard said we will unite for a common cause, LIKE HELL WILL WE.

They can put who ever on the VP ticket this time , it will not work, We’ve had it.

The establishment and Romney needs N FL where I am and he will not get it and other swing states he will need us and he will not get it and that is because thee is no difference between Romney the liberal MA ass Gov and a socialist.

Both are big Govt, pro homo, pro cross dressing, anti gun, anti hunting, clueless on the military , Govt health care etc

Voting for Romney is voting for obama because they stand for the same issues.

As for HEALTHCARE, Er Santorum wanted to fight it and yet stays in the race and splits the vote and if he had not been oin the race last night the headline would have been, Romney spends big but only scrapes a win and that would have took all the headwind out of Romney

Yea well done Santorum ARF

Because Romney requested it. If Newt requests it, he gets it too.

I’ve never voted for a Democrat in my life. I don’t expect to ever vote for a Republican again. I’m just waiting for the replacement party or the revolution at this point. Electoral politics is dead.
